This is the sign I had such pull-up paint problems doing. It's up and the customer was happy. And I learned LOTS! Thanks to all who responded. As I was taught in Carpenter apprenticeship- "It's not a mistake if you can fix it". I was lucky! The star is carved HDU and the gold is gold leaf. On to the next project... Neat & clean, Cat, but why all that negative space in the centre & upper left? It sort of reminds me of a business' "with compliments" notepad, where there's room to write something, but it's not yet been written. (I don't mean to be critical, just curious about the reasoning behind the layout/design).

I think it would look great if the sign were a little shorter and a little less wide -- would eliminate some of that negative space, and let a little more of the logo overhang the top and let just a corner hang over the right side.
EDIT: that kinda sounded like I didn't think it looked great to begin with -- not the case!

I like it and I don't mind the extra negative space. Better than no negative space. Ever notice some of the latest ads in mags and newspapers? I've see some full pagers with one small name or line of copy in the center of the page. It really gets noticed.

I'd say the difference is that in your example, the copy is centered...It's a question of overall balance. A lot of negative space can work, but not as well when it is all on the top/bottom/right side/whatever...in this example the graphic does help to balance it out somewhat.

The funny part is that the sign had to be up by last Sunday for a big reception at the Theatre for major donors. Found out today from my buddy on the board there, that NO ONE even mentioned the sign at all. But I got the check in the mail today!

Cat, I like it, especially the unique star. You know some may speak of white space, but sometimes those upscale folks like that look, clean and simple. I didn't follow the portfolio page when you were working on it, but, I bet you have a lot of satisfaction getting through the challenges. I know I do. What's that star made of?

There are a lot of signs with an extreme amount of negative space . . . particularly in hospitals and medical towers . . .
I always thought it was for the purpose of 'presence', which in turn, draws the eye directly to the copy . . .
I love the simplicity of this sign, and the gold-leaf star, which seems to be in motion, is a very classy.
Mabey this white sign is gettin' lost in the snowy background. Come spring/summer, there will be much more contrast behind it, and it will really 'pop'.
