If you'ns all remember, I volunteered to make a sign for the Fire Company that services Jackie Vaughn's home area. This is project she has spent considerable time on and is now realizing her dream come true.

This one of the reasons that making this sign was so special. It is really cool to help someone realize a dream and i feel privileged to have been able to help.

Jackie told me in an e-mail that she showed the rendering I posted to the members of the department and that they are all really jazzed. Now, that is food for the heart and head... [Smile]

This sign was composed of red pre-finished .040 aluminum over an .032 aluminum tube frame. Top and bottom edges are bent over the frame. The skin is riveted along the top and bottom and siliconed on the back of the face to the frame.

All the lettering is 2 mil HP Avery A8 vinyl. There is one seam in the black along the thin side of the fire crest. The black of the inner crest and the bottom black was one piece and the rest comprised the second. The rest of the other colors of vinyl are seamless.

Looking at the final project, I wish I had tightened up the spacing of the secondary copy a little bit because, silly me, I forgot "Station No.2" in the original design. Dana spared me great grief by noticing. It is funny how one can forget something because we are concentrating on the rest of the design. [Big Grin]

I was just too dang lazy and cheap to recut it or break apart the design.

Bruce - Lockwood Fire Dept. simply can't thank you enough!
As Bruce mentioned, I took a print of his design to our EMS Dinner, where every emergency service agency from the entire County got a peek. We are simply the talk of the town. There are 7 fire departments in the county - all are all-volunteer and exist on very meager funding. Guess who's gonna have the best looking Station now?
Bruce, you have given a piece of your heart to LFPD, and that's more than we ever could imagine.
With all the problems we encountered building the new Station (and there were many) you have been the bright lite - the good news - the one thing that went right - and the one thing that kept us all going!! Your name will stand tall at LFPD.

Stovepipe has been a sign painter's staple since the beginning of time! History shows helvetica has was developed in Switerland in the 1920's which is when fire truck lettering style came into vogue with the advent of motorized fire fighting apparatus.

Personally, I think the typestyle mix is great, and very much related to the era and each other.

I thought thats what I said. They are from different time periods, but are used together in an interesting, if unusual mix.

Personally I don't find the fonts to be related at all, but I didn't say that was a bad thing!

I agree with you Barry. At first glance I saw that the font combination wasn't what I would have expected. I decided that I liked it.
