This was my first attmept to produce truck lettering that would be difficult to produce with conventional methods. I had a blast, learned a ton and lost a few more hairs lol.

That looks great Bob! Is it an Edge print?

Cool! I want an Edge when I grow up!!

Yes Amy that is an Edge print, It's just seamed at the top of the "M.WAC". 4 color with abrasion guard. One layer of vinyl, install was minimal. I have a 16' trailer and a Grumman truck to do next.

That's amazing Bob!
Could you give some hints at how you put it together?- Are the tools from an illustration of yours that you scanned in? - Where'd you get the nice scroll designs? (not that I doubt you could have drawn them yourself...) - any problems getting the printed colors to match what you had on screen?

Very nice!

Hi Alan,

Sure I'll give a run down, First I can not take full credit for the design. I had gotten the basic Idea from a beautiful sign that was produced at a Letterhead meet that Cam Bortz had attended in the UK. I had seen the picture at Cam's and asked that he e-mail it to me for inspiration on this job, for I wanted an old fashioned crafsmanship feel for this design. Due to internet complications, Cam assembled the basic layout in Omega based somewhat on the picture and sent that up for inspiration. I took the rough layout and tweaked it and rearranged it to what you see now.

The beautiful scroll work can only be credited to Mike Jackson's Sign painters ornaments collection. The rest was done specifically in Photoshop 6.0, using Eye Candy 4000 for the 3D work.

The tools were digital photos taken by the customer of his old tools, I then took each tool individually cleaned the up, added shadows and arranged them as you see now, each one was on it's own layer so I could move them around.

Of course a healthy subscription to AMAL ( a magazine about letterheads ) does wonders as well for the idea part.

The colors where the toughest part, I must have ran 15 tests before I got the right pattern of print and the right colors.

I cant wait to do the 4'x8' logo on the trailer!

The effect conveys a feeling of fine elegance. Nice.
Question..Does anyone know if EyeCandy will work as a plug-in to Corel? I only work with Draw and PhotoPaint and have no desire to learn Adobe.

Posted by Amy Brown (Member # 1963) on :

Bob Stephens, yes, you can use Eye Candy with PhotoPaint and Macromedias Fireworks, maybe others I don't know about.

Glenn Taylor and Jonathan Androsky have step-by-steps for using with Corel available here:

Great Job Ryan.. perfect. It's nice to see the Edge being used to it's potential by Great Sign Artists.

I just got off the phone with Bob and looked at this post - he really made this look top notch. The silver background is especially tough to work with - the colors have to be just right, and they are. And all digital.... this is an Edge advertisement as good as any.

It's just so trying, but all too cool learning something new!

Very fine work!

Rob, I would have thought that it was hand lettered. As Cam said, what better ad for an edge than this? Sweeeeet.

Congratulations Bob,

Great piece of work!!

I only got my Edge back in the summer, and so am just begining to come to grips with using Photoshop and Eyecandy to help enhance Edgework.

Your work MJ's work and the eyecandy in AMAL are an inspiration to all of us to achieve more.

Thanks for sharing, keep us posted on the next stage for them, I 'd be really interested in seeing how you put it all together.

Great example of how the "tools" of today can be used to produce fantastic designs. You inspire the rest of us!

The only problem is now I want an Edge even more.

Well everyone else has already said it but I will say it agian. Awesome, terrific, inspiring, cool, sensational, and so on and so forth. Really great work!! I know you love your Edge as much as we do ours!! [Smile]

Bob,
That is as good as anything I have ever seen that came off the Edge. Don't you just love PS and Eye Candy.

Bob...I don't know much about the edge...but your sign is a beautiful layout!

Bob...

That is awesome. If you ever need someone to paint a design you did, I raise my hand. That is a truly masterful layout, and I really like the scrolls winding into the panel like that. That would be much fun to paint ... perhaps use some white gold or pearl colors ?

You puttin' that on a trailer ? It belongs in a museum !

Hi Bob
Great job, it looks very professional, i have been doing signs for years, and i too would like to see this job in person. It is like the signs that i have seen in jackson wyoming, done by a friend of mine, by the name of mike jackson, of golden era studios. keep up the good work.
Mike
