I like my old cards but I goofed up and didn't put my name or website on them. I decided to do some new ones. I like the black version and my husband likes the other one (What's new!). What other colors would you try? Thanks!

The bottom one to me seems to be too dark. So I pick the top one, but........ the bevel on the imitation gold letters is too close in value to the gold. I feel more contrast is in order for the bevel. or actually after looking at it a second time, try an outline between the letter and the bevel.
I'd try a little fire red in it and see what happens

Hi Amy..... I love the script font (Magic)but the font you used for 'signmakers' doesn't seem to go well with it. Just my opinion. I like the colors on the top version very much if you lighten the phone number.

Scale everything down abit on the copy ... card seems crowded, needs to breathe just a tad more. I like the top, (without the red pinline added afterwards) but would like to see a slight gradient blend in the lettering. Starting from the bottom with the actual colour you have there, and fading up to white or a very light yellow. You may have some adjustments to make on the bevel colour after this too. It is very tone on tone right now. Add a black backdrop shadow to make it pop out more. Maybe excentuate (lighten up) the glow in behind just a bit too.
Would also like to see a different font for Signmakers ... just to see the difference. Would like to see you downsize that capsule panel abit too. Again ... hugging the side margins abit to closely I think.
Lastly, maybe downsize your web info a pt. size. The thickness of that font competes with the delicacy of the script above it on your name and phone #.
Just some suggestions ... although I do think the layouts look pretty snazzy as is. Just please give some air for those elements to play out better

Looking better all the time Amy. The plainer font for signmakers is great. Try not to use more than one display type in your layouts. They start to compete with each other.
The only other real tip I have, and this goes for many layouts I see here and on the road, is to leave more negative space around your layout. Don't be afraid to leave up to 15% of your total horizonal space around the whole layout. And just a tad more at the bottom.

I like the latest version it looks great. if i were to change anything though I think I would get rid of the gradient on the main copy. keep it the same as the original design. I like the white phone # and the font in signmaking much better though.
1 other thing you might want to try tweeking is the outline around the box shape behind signmaking. instead of silver/white maybee make it darker than the box like the same gold you have in ambo design. don't know how that would look just a thought.

I like the top version. The only change I would make is to take the "owner" part off. Your name should be a bit bolder centered over the e-mail to make a bold statement to whoever is reading it. Amy, both your first designs are great, lotsa good advice from everybody as well.
I like the second one, It's bolder in color weight, if that makes any sense. Be nice to see that one with turquoise/teal accents.
The gold gives you an established feel and seems more impressive, as a corporate type image.
The gold and the gray/silver thing seem to fight each other. Gray is cool and gold is heat, they are both light and do not contrast enough to be read at a glance across the room, so to speak.
Increase your visibility. Keep it alive.

Thanks for all the input everyone! Now, I have a question........I did all of those in Fireworks because I could use EyeCandy 4000 in it since my PhotoPaint just doesn't want to work properly.
I was not aware that I couldn't export to .eps from Fireworks. I am sending this to Postcard Press and they only take .eps.
I tried to save it as .bmp, .jpg, .psd and import into CorelDraw so I could double-check dimensions and export to .eps. I looks awful everytime.
Any other suggestions? I really like what I am coming up with but can't get it exported to print! Posted by George Perkins (Member # 156) on :
Boy, this thing is turning out great! I really like the way it's developing. My only suggestion would be a change in the outline color. As it is now you're losing the centers of the letters. Try working with the green background colors for your outline, arranging them where the dark falls on the light and vice versa. It will look like the lettering is stamped out of the background color, an old "Jersy style" trick that is subtle and killer at the same time.

Also wish i could help you to get your file to an eps but dont have a clue about fireworks, but I am sure if you go into the bb someone will have an answer, they usually have an answer of some sort for everything, not always what ya wanna hear, but its an answer.

Save your Firework file as .pgn (native Fireworks file) and import that into Corel. I do that all the time. It makes it easy to take parts of a design into fireworks and do part in Corel and then save the whole dang thing as a .jpg or a .gif or a .tif or whatever.
Jpg's work good for showing while I like to save files as a .tif for large format printing. It might just be me but I like the results of printing from a .tif rather than a .bmp...

Thanks everyone for all the comments and suggestions. It's nice to know that I am getting better at this stuff. If I could just learn how to sell!! Here is what I sent to Postcard Press. It looks dark on-screen in RGB but is lighter when converted to CMYK and printed and is more legible.
