thanks folks for the comments.

hey terry, this sketch started out in gerber graphix advantage 6.0.
i exported the vector image as an .ai file.
then i opened the file in macromedia fireworks and applied all fills and effects.

i like to start out with a black and white version...

it is true, if it works in black & white, it will work in color.

cheryl, thanks for the great sketch...

come on, you guys do your take on this layout.

i love to see what others are thinking.

Where are the other sketches!???????!!!??? Sure Marks is nice.....mine is just ok. So what? I think Mark was wanting others ideas? Hopefully we are not intimidated by anyone or anything. I think it is great fun to see others work. Even a quick sketch. I have another idea.......but shucks......I don't want to take up the whole post.

Good work Mark! I like designing in my old GA 6.0, and have also been playing in the Fireworks playground, you can obtain some neat effects quickly to vector graphics.

Here you go... I don't have a collection of flourishes. (Wish I had more). The one on this sign is one I made from scratch. You can see it is a letter "A" that I squished and stretched, then added a few doodads!...

You're a great designer Mark, aint nobody gonna blow your doors off. I liked your take on it, and did one with a similar look and feel. It's great to see the different ways signpeople look at doing layouts.

The lines I was talking about are most noticable in the "C" in pharmacy. Can anyone tell me how to prevent this ? I am using an old version of Flexi (5..8 v2 )to do the initial design then exporting to Corel 8 and then importing in to Macromedia Fireworks 4 to do the rendering...... I know this is a long way around, however I am not going to pay Flexi about $1000 to upgrade.

I am most comfortable doing the initial design in Flexi.

great job shep,
i enjoyed talking with you on the phone buddy.
seems you are getting the hang of fireworks.

isn't fireworks a cool program?

Mark, I like yours the best so far. I was looking for some depth or trim on that panel w/ the Pharmacy copy as the only thought I had.

I'm not too happy w/ this one, but a good excuse not to do my work for awhile this evening. Messed around with some new filters for unpredictable results.

No fireworks here, just a black & white pen sketch.

Mark, how'd ya make those bricks look so REAL??!!!

OK, I wanna play too
had a little Sunday to kill.
Looking through the designs (some very nice ones BTW) I see a kind of theme going.
Most of the designs have a "Small town" (for lack of better words) feel (not that there is anything wrong with that at all). Would I be right to assume this is a mom-n-pop/nastalgic type operation, ... I don't know, the situation wasn't really established.
So I'm gonna jump in a completely different direction and go for a bolder corporate look with more "steril/medical" color scheme ... picturing more of a backlit panface then a carved piece ... if you know what I mean?

Great sketches everyone!
here is one i am posting for Tony McDonald...

I didn't give much info about the building.
The facade is an english tudor type architecture.
the customer wanted something that would compliment the building.
