Just got a vinyl cutter, no business, no advertising until I figure out what I'm doing. What are some of the "easier jobs" I should try first? Please be merciful! Thanks

Michelle, I started out making samples to give to friends and potential clients.....then when I got the confidence, I offered the service to my regular window splash clients...taking opportunities like: 'push/pull's , 'hours' and such on their doors and windows, names on thier vehicles and whatever came along. What kind of experience do you have in sign making so far? If none, I would suggest you get your hands on a several good books on layout and design.(Mike Stevans is a good place to start). Good layout and design are important elements in any sign, vinyl or handpainted. Good luck! Adrienne

Put the Brand name of your vechle "Chevy, Ford" on your Windshield as a Banner. It's good practice and will service a ad for you services. Something on the back windsheild will work the same.
Cutting is easy, you should practice vectorizing logo's in your design software.
Try multi color logo's, cut them small and place them on small pieces of sintra or coroplast. (good practice laying vinyl, and registering different colors).
Try scanning and tracing business cards of local business' you want to target. Make small samples you can take with you to show what you can do. (This was a Dave Grundy trick, to generate initial business.)
LETTER YOUR TRUCK!! Some of the best, cheapest, advertising going.

Thanks for all the help (even though I posted in the portfolio table!) I can't wait to get started! I've been a screen printer for 7 years, working with Corel draw and Photoshop, so I'm pretty good at logo design and scanning and converting to vector,etc. I LOVE to look at signs and vehicle graphics and truck lettering (I drive my family nuts) and I really can't wait to learn how to do it all. I'll post my first successful sign and maybe some of my "trial and error" stuff too. Adrienne, I'd liked your van graphics. Thanks again.
