I just got my free roll of Oracle 851 from Hyatts. I cut one 18" section, it weeded good, but when I tried to get it up with transfer tape (heavy paper, med. tack) I wouldn't budge. I'm not impressed at all, you can have it. If anyone wants this role, 28.5 ft of black, send me a ups call tag and you can have it.

I hate to be negative...but sheesh. I make up new swear words everytime I use oracal. I am sorry.....but it just weeds like $hit. I am done with it. I have given it plenty of chances. And each and every time.....I get mad. Even my dog leaves the room when I am weeding oracal.

Sorry yall...but I have the opposite opinion. I have used 751 and 651 Oracal for years with no problems. I do adjust my blade for 651 since it's thicker. Ron and Cheryl what plotter are you cutting with? I used a Mimaki CG-6. I have yet to get my free sample of 851..guess I didn't fill the info out right on their website.

I ran off a bit of 851 on my Roland with minimal problems, had to run a bit slower than usual though - hey if you want to get rid of it - I'm just a bit down the road - You're near York, Right?

I got a free 15x10 roll of 851 red. There's one small piece tucked away with a date written on it and another applied outside on the back door. I'm curious to see how the red holds up in a few months. I did cut some lettering out (10"x92") and it cut and weeded just fine. Actually, it weeded rather nicely. So far I like it but haven't seen a supplier that stocks it. Unless its a huge savings I'll continue to use Avery and 3M for cast and Oracal 651 for calendared.

From what I hear .... Oracal is inconsistent with their adhesive. You never know which batch will be good or bad. Well I guess I don't like guessing games. And all the bad batches must have come to Seattle. Judy I still use my trusty ole' 13 year old Roland PNC 1000. Oracal just eats up blades also.

On the Oracal gripes, I have bought a few rolls from my one & only local supplier here on Maui, who has a very limited selection & prices that keep me away except in emergencies. I was lured into trying Oracal because they offer 10yds. of Gerber for $50, or 50yds. of Oracal 651 for $50. with that glossy look, I decided to give it a try. I've seen people grumble about the weeding characteristics. I also saw the re-fusing back together on the cut-lines issue which I guess was a known problem that many folks got compensated for.
My biggest gripe, & one I don't recall being mentioned here that I've seen is on a recent job of 4 signs, each with a large text panel of about 300 5/8" characters, even though I use high-tac transfer tape, the letters wouldn't come easily off the backing sheet. Haven't got my free roll yet either. still waiting. a couple of months ago, I was in a hurry and called my screen supplier who also carries vinyl and just told them to send me some white high performance. They did, they sent me a roll of Gerber with the clear plastic carrier backing. I have tried to ignore the price, because it was the easiest to cut and weed, plus the clear backing is great to use as airbrushing stencils.

I use a Gerber HS15, fast and a real workhorse. It cut fine, weeded fine, couldn't get it off the liner. I'll give you my role, no takers yet? That should tell you alot.

To whom it may concern: Four years ago I did 38 4x8's for a local race track. The type that go on the back stretch. Half of the Vinyl I used was 751. Today I still have the account at the track but I'm ashamed to say I did those signs. The Oracal is almost completely peeling off some of the signs and cracking and checking on the rest. The white is actually bleeding it's color down the sign. I wouldn't even take a free sample if the saleman drop off in person. I use only Avery and 3m now. You do what you want.

Ok, let me address some of these issues.
Ron, Oracal films are designed with a high adhesion liner and you need to use a high-tack tape, turn your graphic over and sharply roll the liner off.
Cheryl, I'm sorry you're still having problems with 651. I'd like to get in touch with you directly to take care of it.
Thanks Judy, actually Oracal is denser rather than thicker. 651 is actually 2.5 mils. The density does require a heavier plotter pressure and is what gives it a higher opacity, dimensional stability and conformability.
Brian, I'll be looking forward to your results. A really fun test you can do in just a few days is cut a 3"x5" rectangle out of 851, 3M and Avery and leave it on the liner unweeded. Compare shrinkage, it equates interestingly to each of our stated dimensional stabilities.
To everyone still waiting for 851 samples, we are filling requests as fast as possible. Demand for 851 did exceed projections.
Bruce, I'm sorry you didn't get those chizlers. I'll be sure some go out right away, I still have your email.

I got my free roll---TWICE, but I had to pay the freight for it once, from TUBELITE. Not a bad deal altogether.

I have used a lot of the Oracal products since it was first introduced. I have experienced none of the problems that I see talked about here, I got my free roll almost immediately, and I have used the 851 with great results. I had a color issue with a customer, and the tech people at Oracal worked with me . Couldn't ask for more.

I got my free roll last week and used some of it today. It seemed to cut fine, weed fine and release fine as well. No problems.
