I finally got tired of cleaning mouse balls and bought an optical mouse. At first I found that it jumped around quite a bit, when used on a standard mouse pad. I tried using just the desk top and it still jumped around. So I taped down a single sheet of 8.5"x11" printer paper. The mouse works flawlesly on it!
Now I am thinking about a cordless optical mouse for the other puter and see how it works. Anyone have any input on the cordless ones?

I have a cordless optical mouse by Logitech, which i use on a soft, cushy, solid black mouse pad. I love it! Best money I ever spent! I have not had any problems with the mouse jumping around and I love not having the cord in the way (I had a big problem with empty coke cans getting knocked over by the cord, I know I'm a slob!)

Logitech optical, tailess mouse on this puter, Logitech tailess with ball on the other. I use the optical on a solid color pad also to prevent skipping. I use the pad because I have heard that opticals will pit a surface after a while. I'd rather pit the pad than the desk.
The only problem I have seen with the optical cordless is that it goes through batteries a lot faster than the trackball cordless.
If you had been at my meet, I would have let you see, and try both of them.heh heh

Hiya Dave, If you're still gonna use a mouse, check out an optical track ball. This is the one I have. The best part of this type of mouse is you don't have to commit a lot of real estate on your desk in order to use it. There's also a cordless version but I foud it less comfortable to work with.

I love my Logitech optical mouse. I didn't get a cordless one because then I would have to put a string on it to keep from losing it.
Now, if they will just make a cordless mouse that has a "find" feature like my cordless phone...

I think the find feature idea is a great one - could be a button on the receiver that's attached to the computer. My optical cordless mouse got here day before yesterday and we are already inseparable. (e-bay, they are overrun with them) It's for my laptop, but for the fear of losing it I hesitate to put one on my shop computer.
It did jump for the first few minutes, and then settled down nicely. I think the range of movement is wonderful, the messy /get out of my way cord is not missed, and I think it helps my aching wrist and hand to have the mouse right at waist level in my lap.
I think I just talked myself into getting the other one.

I have 3 of the 5 button IntelliMouseses- two extra buttons set for back/forward on the net. I can no longer use anything else. Gene
