IM USING SIGNGOLD ON THIS JOB WITH A PRISMATIC FONT, WHAT I WANT TO DO IS SOMEHOW DARKEN THE SHADOW SIDE BUT STILL BE ABLE TO SEE THE SWIRL PATTERN THRU IT. ANY IDEAS OUT THERE. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP BEFORE HAND.....

The Edge would be one way. With it you could print a matte finish clear or ZeroNine's Shadow foil to the shadow side of the bevel.

You could try Avery's "True Shadow" vinyl for the darker effect, but let me add, anytime I have tried to put anything over Sign Gold's coating, it has come off. Vinyl, clear, etc.

There are two types of SignGold....one with the Tedlar surface and one without.
Be sure to use the one without.

Oracal now has a Transparent vinyl it is very see thru you can read the newspaper thru it. it comes in 24 colors, I would get some in the family of the color of the truck. it would look realistic but still see the gold brilliance thru it.

Etchlook vinyl such as Gerber's frosted crystal gives a nice effect. Or one of the other SignGold such as satin surface. Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever tried to put anything over SignGold. I guess you would put the SignGold on top.

Glenn.... I just checked the SignGold website and they refer to "printable SignGold in certain patterns. I assume that is the stuff with no tedlar coating.
Have you used it?
How does it stand up and how does the brilliance compare with the regular SignGold?
I had a problem once with trying to put regular vinyl over SignGold and of course it lifted. A regular marina customer once clearcoated over SignGold lettering and stripes (after I advised them of the potential problem...and the problem surfaced quickly!)
This stuff would be ideal for those situations I would think.

You can do a really cool look (on the Edge) if you select your chiseled pieces and assign sunflower yellow print, but do a vertical fade, top to bottom. Don't group them so each piece fades separately. Altough SignGold is Tedlar film and nothing is suppose to stick to it, you can use true shadow or etch look or other vinyl on it. It doesn't except paint,screen ink etc. The Edge printable material now comes in all patterns, you just have to specify it when ordering. You can get some neat effects printing on it with translucent cartridges. Also the Roland PC-600 & the new PC-12 will work with the printable SignGold.

Artie...Sorry to disagree with ya but NOTHING sticks to that tedlar finish on regular SognGold for more than a few weeks. Even with a severe scrubbing with 600 grit sandpaper.

Artie, I'm inclined to agree with Dave. I would like to know how you got it to stick for more then a month too.I do admit the few times I tried it, it didn't last too long, and that Sign Gold is too expensive to experiment with and have it go to waste!

If you know how to swing a brush, you can mix asphaltum with spar varnish and get a really nice transparent shadow.

Or you can add the color of your choice for a shadow to 1-Shot tinting clear,
