I have been thinking of getting into this as another service I could offer. I would contact local hospitals and such about repainting the helipads and include their logos on them. Anyone here ever do them? What kind of paints would you use? Etc.....
Around here, they're lots of oilfield fabrication yards that refurbish offshore platforms and have the pads redone as well.
Any Insight?
Thanks,
Tony B

Check into FAA regulations first, they might have rules against logos and other junk cluttering up the pad.
It's been 8 years since my flight training so I forget all the details (had to quit cause air time is expensive for an 18 year old in college) but the markings on landing strips and helipads carry a ton of meaning. The last thing ya wanna do is distract from the markings.

Tony, Why not give PHI or Air Logistics a call and ask for their input? If you don't want to talk to someone here locally, call Houma, Morgan City, or Venice.

After the 2nd one that I painted, decided that it was not the type of work that is fun!
Everything has to be EXACTLY as per the drawings, and is usually on an abrasive, non slip rubber surface.
Don't forget to add the cost of the Chiropractor to the price! Heli pads are as bad as basketball Courts to paint!

I know of a Guy named Paul Quinn from PA. I believe he did one before. I don't know if he lurks around here. I think Alan Johnson is friendly with him.

I have done one for Nancie Phillips at the Talledaga Raceway. Had to use an epoxy(2 part)indurall paint. Heli-choppers don't always hit their mark! No promblems other than the basketball court back ache. Hope this helps

Hey Santo, let's not forget ERA or are they out of business now? I used to work for them in Lake Charles, Fouchon, and Grand Isle. Posted by EPatzer (Member # 135) on :
Painted 4 corporate helipads all the same with their logo... Pain in the back side if you catch my drift... Used 1/4" plywood templates to shoot the paint through (traffic marking white) and used glass beads to give it some reflectivity. Worked great but now I have 12 4x8 sheets of painted and cut plywood in my garage that just always get in the way!

Steve ERA is still hanging in there. They were really based pretty heavily in Houma. Since you're a cowboy, I'll ask you how you liked that Grand Isle Rodeo.

As far as paint goes, Franklin Paint Company, (Franklin, Mass.) makes and sells their own paint Hydrophast with pumice for traction and then you could dust it with glass for reflectivity? We sometimes use it on the highway dept. for crossewalks. Won't slip on this stuff.
