So mant times I have hear " is that your best price" or "can you give me a discount " yada yada yada it was nice to submit an estimate to a local general contractor for some signs on one of his jobs.
Hear is how it went:

me) "here is the quote you wanted on that airport job, and a sample of the color

GC) "Hey thats beautiful, is this for the whole job"

me) "yeah"

GC) "including installation?"

me) "no"

GC) "are you comfortable with that price?"($1,850

me) "yeah, why did someone else come in way over or under mine?"

GC) as he flips through his files "make it $2,400 I will send you a PO"

me) uh...OK!

Si,
That guy must be working on a "cost plus" job. I've seen guys pay the lower price then pocket the rest. You're right, he should be very nice to the man. I'm a retired utility contractor, therefore I too realize that they are few and far between.

Kathy....most of my work is for General, or Painting contractors. After working with them over the years, you get to trust each other and give each other some perks!
Also, after a while, contractors get a feel for your prices and may have allowed too much for the signs a ND graphics, and as a result of you busting your butt to get some previous jobs done on a short schedule, it's a way of saying thanks.

All of my high-end transportation customers say this.

Another example: A 4 x 20 banner at $560 gets me "Wow, thats expensive, you must be living the high life" at the local Honda dealer.

Across the street at the Mercedes dealer, the manager always says: "Are you sure you're making money on these".

It's a matter of scale people are used to during the day. The Honda dealer sells tail light lenses at $56.00 for the accord.

A tail light lens for an "S-Class" runs about $490.

The Honda banner said: "Everything drastically marked down"

The Mercedes Banner said: "Affordable new C-Class coupes Starting At $44,999"

Now there's perspective!

Ken, it has to make you wonder what those other bids were. And if the others were higher, why weren't your's. It always spooks me if I get the message that my prices were 'good'. Makes me wonder if I'm screwing myself.
