A friend recently turned me on to this tip; If you get bumped offline alot, run RealPlayer in the background. It will assume you are active, thus no el bumparoo!

another tip...if you get bumped off the web, chances are you have aol. To fix this problem dump them!

You can also set your e mail software to check for new e mails every 3 to 5 minutes.
This keeps an idle site, not so idle.

Here's something I've seen that (almost) eliminates the "spam", when entering your e-mail address anywhere put a <delete this> in the middle of it somewhere. The human factor will see it and delete it and the e-mail works for them, the computer "bot" will not read it or see it and send it to youremailaddress@<deletethis>server.com and it will get returned. That is, unless they have developed a way of having computers "read" the e-mail addresses now. Nonetheless, it's worth the extra time to type it in and to save the endless time weeding junk mail out of your Inbox!

I have a setting on my dial up software that lets you stay connected.....or you can set it up to disconnect when idle for a ceretain amount of time...and thats on a MAC...im sure with all the bells and whistles on a PC they have an option like that also...............just a thought........Cyber
My ISP bumps you off if inactive for 10 minutes also. The best way I've found to stay on is to have ICQ running. Just leave yourself in "Private" mode. I have not seen any slowdown of pages loading at all with ICQ running in the background.

I must be one of the very lucky few whose dial-up does not bump them for being inactive.
I'm a late night surfer and I always fall asleep forgetting to disconnect the modem. I'll come back to the PC the next afternoon and find that I'm still connected!

I can remember when us pc folks used to be defensive to mac user comments, how times change. The Server is the one who bumps regardless of what your pc is set to do. My server does not bump me though if I have AOL IM up or ICQ. I think the new connections like Mark is referring to is the only way to guarantee you won't get bumped.Then I guess Mother Nature or the power co would be the only problems

Mark...Just got DSL connection here too!!! What a difference!!!! Now my only hold-back is the speed at which remote servers can download to me!!!! hehehehehe I LOVE it!!!!
