I need to make two 9x48" wood signs to go on the side of a flower shop. I've always used MDO for this type of sign but I'm out and don't want to buy a full sheet if I don't have to. The 9 1/4" wide x 3/4" thick wood at Home Depot they call "Whitewood" would be great if it works. It looks like pine but is called "Whitewood". I'm wondering if this will hold up, not crack or warp if I prime and paint it well. I don't want any aluminum composite for this.
Any experience here? Thanks.

You canNOT prime or paint that stuff well enough to last outdoors. If you can find a piece of redwood or teak you will have a better chance.

White oak will also work well. Teak and redwood are some times har to locate. Now if we could just find some lead, oil base paint
