Any suggestions. Need something that will last a while. I've got some Avery hammered silver on my car that is ten years old and still looks good, might go with their gold.

Does it have to be immitation? Why not use Real Gold? That's the spin off of Sign Gold. The pattern it much softer and much better than Sign Gold, and the imitation stuff isn't much cheaper.
Not to mention the pattern on the imitation stuff is way too pronounced in my opinion.

I'm rejeuvenating a pub style sign I made 13 years ago here, and the Signgold vinyl I used on it still looks good, George.

We had a guy call us with the new alternative to SignGold it is www.realgoldinc.com/goldvinyls The guys name was Bill Crowley billcrowley@realgoldinc.com 828-447-0200 They sent a brochure and samples and they look pretty good.

I have not tried RealGold. I'll have to get a sample. What I do not like about SignGold is it does not reflect light like gold leaf. I actually prefer the textured gold vinyl by Arlon over SignGold. I had two signs up near each other for years on a restaurant so I could see the difference. One was 22k gold leaf, the one I made later was SignGold. I love the way gold leaf catches light when at dusk when everything else is going into dim light but the gold is glowing. SignGold doesn't do that nearly as well. I know it's actual gold somehow plated onto the vinyl, so maybe it's that clear overlay that ruins it. Besides that business about edge sealing. Hopefully the RealGold looks better.

Don, you take some prewaxed backing paper and pour enamel on it and wait for it to dry and harden, then take an exacto and simply cut out the letters you want, and with a bit of aerosol spray glue - Boom : instant imitation vinyl!

I've been using a 'real signgold' for a little while for some honour boards. Some we do hand lettered, with patent leaf (which we call 'transfer leaf') but others the client has insisted we match whet they had before, which was a 22 or 24 ct gold of a type of vinyl.
The real gold stuff we got comes in rolls 24" wide, and was about $100 per lineal metre, from memory.
The ONLY problem I had was cutting right through on letter corners, especially small ones like 5/8" or less. It would leave a minute tab at every start & end of every letter, making it really difficult to weed cleanly.
I solved it by altering the blade offset in the plotter software from the standard 0.25mm to 0.4mm, and that forces it to overcut each join by a whisker.
(It was painful before I did that!)
