I have some files (customer supplied) that contain drop shadows. I know there can be some issues when using transparencies, can anyone fill me in on this?

Its best to "flatten" the image (merge all of the layers into a single layer) before printing.

Thanks Glenn. I was trying to figure out how to flatten it in CDR. When you publish to PDF is there a setting to do that? He sent me a pdf file. I got him to resend with all fonts converted to curves but there was a couple of bits that he missed. I don't know much about printing....

I do all of my business card layouts in Corel Draw. Once I have the design the way that I want it, transparencies and all, I select all of the objects and convert it to a 1200 dpi rgb bitmap (usually JPG) with the anti-alias turned off. Then I send the JPG file to the printer. The colors and transparencies usually turn out perfect.

What kind of printing are you trying to do?

as Glenn says.

sometimes I do keep the text in outlines over the "convert to bitmap" background.

These are flyers and door hangers. I think maybe that`s what I`ll do, just export it as a jpg.... why such a high resolution thoughÉ...and how do I get my keyboard normal again [Roll Eyes]

For a flyer, 300dpi should be fine.

The reason for 1200dpi on a business card is because the printer is printing at an extremely high LPI. The 1200dpi lets me take advantage of it and obtain greater image and text detail.

Glenn . . . lurking here - but thanks so much for that info. We have some backlit sign transparencies coming up for a print job and that information will help greatly . . .!!!

Glenn- I would have to ask why you would save it down in RGB mode for printing? All of our printing agencies prefer CMYK because that is ultimately how they will print it-- I only use RGB for web related stuff... Just curious
