I've got a fun project lined up. It's a 16 x 50 concrete stave silo on a farm here. The thing has not ever been painted and was wondering how some of you would prep it. on lower projects I have usually just sandblasted and then painted. being up in the air like this would a wash with muratic acid work. I think I could do this easier.
I plan on painting a panel first and then letter on top of this. With the new paint thats out there now, is there something that would go over it as it is or not.

Ive done one in town for a construction compnay! I actually taped off the rectangle and rolled block filler on it than came back and topcoated with exterior SG latex went back next day and applied lettering
The silo was old and pitted very bad but that block filler really fills in the voids. its simple and its fun to do. 2 days work. It stayed up for about 6 years until the compnay changed names and instead of calling me back to redo it they got another guy that came out and screwed damn 1/8" pvc with vinyl lettering on it LOL
It took about 2 years but it finally all warped and faded out. I do not and will nto understand people

Bruce has the right idea with the block filler. Then, if you want to do a panel at a time, you can draw or pounce your pattern on the block filler. Makes it easy to see. when painting the background, cut in around the lettering. Then come back and paint the letters. You won't have to hang out on the side of a silo watching paint dry.

Forgot to add... Take a fairly stiff duster brush, and knock the loose stuff off before applying the block filler.

Test the paint before
I went to paint a concrete building, only paint that would stick was...1 shot
5 years later they painted the whole building not sure what they did.
