Yuk... I agree. I'm not a fan of the Mac OS 'face' logo either.

Just what I was thinking.
As Dana Carvey as Johnny Carson said, "Who were the ad wizards who came up with that one?"

The elephant labored and produced a mouse.
I tried watching their video to see what Metro Design is but after a couple minutes they still hadnt shown a single sample of anything. I get the idea that Metro Design is sorta like the Highway Dept's Clearview for Everything.

They shd use David's version -- make people sympathize with all the troubles there are with Windows.

I'm sure they labored for hours and hours.... coming up with the esoteric design theory about how they eventually happened upon this concept.
Todd, Apple dropped the face logo several years ago although they do still use it as an app icon for Finder. They also dropped the "Mac" designation from the operating system (ie it's no longer MacOS X, it's simply OS X) but they still use it in referring to their computer systems.

Thanks Mike.... I always see the 'face' ap on my computer... don't really get the visual tie-in to 'Finder'... :-)

Lets just say I think the logo matches the quality of the software.
Posted by Dale Manor (Member # 4858) on :
2nd rate, just like their software.
Seems like they are shifting away from the primary color type logo to a single color....much like Apple did quite a few years ago. But they missed the mark again.

I should have known it would turn into a referendum on Microsoft in general. There Windows Os is excellent and Office is still the standard. Many Mac people know that.
Posted by old paint (Member # 549) on :
BUT.........THEY.....dont like to admit it, cause APPLE is soooooooooooooooooooo much better))))NOT!!!

I've been using Microsoft software for many years, and have learned to adapt to the newest versions of Windows that have come out. As I am sure all the Mac folks have with their operating systems.
I prefer Windows as an OS.
My brother, 8 years younger, has switched over to Mac, at his kid's suggestion. I suspect he did the switch just so he could brag to me about how "adaptable" he is!!!
He is still my stupid kid brother though!!!!
Regarding the original topic about the new logo...Looks like something I coulda come up with in 15 minutes and never expect it to be acceptable to anyone.

Hmm I can see what direction this is heading. Still I suppose hasn't been one of those "debates" in a while

I must be a real high society snob, because I use my $2,500 Macbook Pro laptop for a frozen dinner tv tray.))))))))))))
I have both platforms, and I gotta tell ya... I still love my Windows 7 over Mac OSx.
But the new Windows logo needs some work. They need to hire the guy that developed the Fedex logo.

I am a Windows user...and while I have very little to complain about with my current OS (Windows 7) I don't think I'm throwing out the baby with the bathwater in suggesting that Vista was poorly tested or worse, knowingly released in it's final form. Microsoft has a spotty history with releases.
As for Apple vs. PC- I'm a dual user. No problems with Apple overall.
The new Microsoft logo...well, the first question I think about is "Does it need to change?". If the answer is yes, then the next question is "to what?". Once the new one is done I wonder "Is it better?". In the case of Microsoft, I think they continue to show that strategically they don't know who they want to be. The continual change of logo proves it. I know...I was doing it myself until recently.

"High Society Snob"??? In Potterville, MI Todd????
I have to admit that I did enjoy a Subway sub there a couple of years back though!!! Posted by Todd Gill (Member # 2569) on :
Are you SERIOUS Dave? I live 1 mile from where you ate... shoulda called me up. I'd have taken you down to our famous Gizzard City restaurant.
Those gizzards will do some serious damage to the other organs. Reminds me of a diner near Flint that serves a pound of bacon and 6 to 12 eggs for one of their insane breakfasts.
(Tonys, I believe the name is).

David - we have a Greek restaurant nearby called 'Sophia's'..... 1 egg is really 2, 2 is 4, etc. It's really good, but cholesterol overload.
Owner recently died of a heart attack, I think he was 42. New Greek owner just took over...

From a design standpoint, the logo is already outdated, colors are boring and not very effective- it really looks like something any entry level secretary could produce within 15 minutes of learning Word-- not much "design" principles applied... but I'm sure they will spend a ridiculous amount of money "rebranding"... of course there are rumors that this is a fake story just to get some advertising buzz before the software release , which I guess in a twisted way is working.

If it helps any... I copy pasted it into my CAS program just to check and., sure enough, the angles of both the top and of the bottom of the window are exactly 8°. So at least they put some thought into it. But I like some of the older ones much better.

Mr. Clanton, if there were a thumbs up button on here I would have given you one. My sentiments exactly.

Even this would be a little better.....just not liking what they came up with at all!
