Here's a video Joe did of a screen capture of the process. It's a new girl but the same process.

That would drive me insane.

How well does his computer handle all of the screen redraws everytime he added an object?

Screen redraws?

Posted by Glenn Taylor (Member # 162) on :

Yeah. Perhaps refresh is the correct term. I'm not sure.

Sometimes when I'm working in a Corel file with a lot of objects - especially if the objects contain gradients - I reach a point where every time I do anything to the file I have to wait as the entire image rebuild or redraw itself from the first object to the last. Does that make any sense?

I'm working in Corel X5 /Windows7 / 2 gig ATI vid card / 2.5ghz CPU / 8 gigs of ram.

Joe I can't believe you did all that work in 20 minutes [Smile] Thanks for taking the time to show us your skills.

Sure that's easy! Nothing to it....I Knew it was all smoke and Mirrors... All you need is a computer right?

Now I have a headache....Thanks.

I don't know Mr. Taylor. Seems like you have a pretty nice setup. I'm not sure what I'm doing differently. I don't really have a refresh problem here. I've got a 2.61Ghz Quad-Core Processor, 8GB memory, 64-bit Windows vista and dual ATI video cards.

Are you using a lot of bitmaps or bitmap effects in your designs? That seems to use up more resources for me. The other thing you could try doing is divide and conquer. Do part of the design in one file, part in another, then bring everything together in one file when your done.

Dennis: Yeah not quite 20 minutes. Man that would be nice if I could do them that fast. The parts that are sped up are 8X faster. Soo more like a few hours. I just figured no one wants to sit around and watch this for 2 or more hours, heck 20 minutes is probably too long.

Thanks everyone!

Thanks Joe. But who's Mr. Taylor? [Wink]

Joe....I had to wait until this morning to watch the video...Internet bandwidth here sometimes sux.

AWESOME work and detail!!!!!

Now that I am old and don't need speed to get a job done, I am learning more about CorelDraw, just for the fun of it.

I picked up a couple of ideas from your presentation.

GRACIAS!!!!

Wow, I had no idea that much work went into it. Thanks for the video - great work. By the way, this may be a stupid question, but are you using a pen tablet or mouse to draw the shapes? If a tablet, which one would you recommend? Thanks.

Now you did it, Jean!! He WANTS a Wacom tablet BAD and it just hasn't happen on the business budget line yet. Now I won't hear the end of it for several days.... :-)
He did it all with a mouse.

That was very interesting and fun to watch Joe,you are truly a pro, thanks for posting it Jane.

After watching it twice I feel I have the expertise to produce one "exactly" the same as Joe........Just one question before I start - How do I open Corel? [Confused] [Rolling On The Floor] [I Don t Know]

Thanks Jane & Joe. That's very impressive!
I didn't get to watch all of it- but saw the first 10 minutes. That took an hour to come through on this slow satellite connection!

Please excuse my naiivity, but can you not just posterise it in Photoshop then vectorise those colours in Corel, or are you after smoother vectors or something?

Glenn's PC is from Best Buy. Blame it on the Geek Squad!

Yeah I'm just going for a sharper illustration. The trace function is really cool and would be adequate for a lot of jobs, but there are some things a human touch can do better than computer software any day.

LOL Bruce. Yeah, yeah. We make do with what we have.

Based on something Joe listed about his own computer, I've ordered a new video card. I suspect that will take care of the issue. I hope. I'll find out in a few days.

Anyway, Joe......you have my admiration. You've got a lot more patience than I have. It would drive me nuts putting in all of that detail one object at a time like you have. Kudos.

A tablet would save Joe a LOT of time once he got used to it... and more than justify the learning time and cost of the tablet in the process. Here's the one I recommend... http://www.wacom.com/en/Products/Intuos/Intuos4Medium.aspx
