Seems the new corel(s) can be glitchy, depending what operating system its run on.

Which corel have you found to run the most glitch free in a win 7 environment?

32 bit vs 64 bit stuff?

Nettie, I hope you read this too! We need to fix you up as well. [Smile]

Thank you thank you thank you!

X5 hands down.

I agree with Glen - X5 - have it running on 4 systems running 7 and one running XP. the four win 7 systems are all running a minimum of 8 gigs ram. No gitches. Love this program.

X-5 is the one for sure.

I should have also asked about the 32 vs. 64 bit too. Seems to be a major factor on how it runs. Good grief...

Donna, when you get your computer, go with the 64bit and 8 gigs of ram.

Everything will work just fine under Windows7-64bit. I'm running both 32bit and 64bit programs without any problems. Its really nothing to worry about.

I agree with Glenn - if you don't get a 64bit system, your USABLE ram is limited to about 3.6gb. That means that if you purchased 6 gb of ram... you're wasting over 2 gb because the OS cannot 'see' it or handle it.

With a 64 bit system, you don't have those limitations. I have 12 gb of ram on my Win 7 64 bit system... and it recognizes every bit of it.

Corel will run in either a 32 or 64 bit system... and it (Corel X5) runs great in my Win 7 64 bit system - just as Glenn says.

You guys are just awesome! Thanks!

I downloaded a trial corel x5 on parellels mac. It only froze once so far... here we go. [Smile]

I don't know what bit system I currently have, (can't locate the info on the computer!) but from the reading I've done, corel is still 32. Duly noted for the new system!

Donna, I have a i7 with 4 gigs of Ram and win 7 64 bit system.

Corel X5 runs without a hitch. My Corel 8 would not run on the 64 bit system, so I bought the X5.

Donna a 32 bit system with windows will only allocate a maximum of 2 gb of ram to any given process and can only address 4 gb total it is a mathematical limitation that cannot be changed. A 64 bit system can address alot more than that and allocate quite a bit more of ram to the process. with the home edition there is a 16 mb limitation and this doesn't go up until you use the professional version of win7 when it gets near the 192 gb range. the 64 bit versions of win 7 lower than the pro will still only allocate a maximum of 4 gb of ram or less,to any given process. None of this should really matter unless you are editing large bitmaps and or video then it can become important very fast.

I am sure that x5 would be the ideal choice. However, I run Corel X3 on 3 different machines with WIN 7 64 bit.

Haven't had a blip.

Edited to add: I just checked and Corel X3 will recognise back to cer 7 files so I assume that ver X5 should be able to open ver 9 files. Just another consideration Donna.

Maybe as a test, send soeone here a Corel ver 9 file and see if their ver X5 will open it. THAT would be crucial to your decision!!!

Hey Dave,

I downloaded an x5 trial and you can save all the way down to 8. Perfect. [Smile] I'm doing this in the nick of time!

Am currently trying out a trial corel X5 on mac parallels win 7 pro, 8 gig ram. Runs a little jittery, (???) but no failures so far. Wonderful features though, I'm LOVING it!
