I have a new Charger to paint. He wants some custom airbrushing on the underside of the hood. I noticed it doesn't look like it's clear coated. Do they not clear under the hood from the factory?... and if not do I still need to scuff the surface before I paint? I did the underside of his trunk already and I used a scuff pad on it but I had to go back and touch up several spots where a scuff pad had scratched through the paint (indicating to me no clear coat).
Just wondering if I can save myself an hour or two of scuffing or sanding.

Most basecoats have a short window of time before they can be recoated without needing to scuff. This is generally about 24-36 hours.
From my experience the undersides of hoods and trunks are usually not cleared.
Are you using the fine scuff pads?

Yes, I'm using the fine pads. I guess I'll just give it a light scuff. On the trunk lid I used the SEM intercoat clear to help adhesion and keep my colors from bleeding. I've never used this product before but it worked great. I guess I'll lightly scuff and use the intercoat clear to help it some.

That's what I would do, too. The intercoat will help seal/protect from any issues opened up by sanding paint instead of clear.

Are you using SEM's Color Horizons for the airbrush work on the Charger hood? Love that stuff!!! You'll have to post pics when you're done! I'd love to see it.
