We're starting on a new, longer run of Lincoln Highway murals now. Bill will be here until late June now . . .
Byron, IL is NOT on the LH - but was close enough to be affected by it. They have a drag strip there - so we gave them the story of the transcontinetal speed races . . . Those 'badges' were photos of the originals given to L.B. Miller for one of his efforts . . . the city in the background is actually Byron - superimposed into the design.

Beautiful Jay! What is the substrate/surface?
Posted by Jay Allen (Member # 195) on :
3mm Dibond, Bruce . . . five 4' x 10' sheets. The whole project (all 40 murals) will be done on Dibond . . .

Pretty Cool.

It just doesn't get much better than that.
Hats off to Bill and Jay.
Jay...you and Bill will probably get to know each other rather well before this project is done.

Raymond . . . We already named one of our bedrooms the "William F. Hueg III Suite" way back in 2000 when he was here for weeks . . .
Pretty soon we'll have to add on a wing for him . . .
Any time you work closely together there is a chance for 'issues' . . . But Bill and I have been friends for about 19 years now - so we are well aware of how to get along. He's quite a talent - and a great friend . . . He's making these designs look even better than they might have without him.
We are lucky - and it looks like this is going to last until September of 2011 . . . YOW!!
Jody is fine with a houseguest . . . she's GREAT at taking care of 'her boys' - but this stretch now will be the longest of the project - and we all hope we can continue to get along!! LOL
Ray . . . Indy is just 4 hours away from our shop . . . Posted by Raymond Chapman (Member # 361) on :
Four hours....hmmmm. That's not very far. I'm used to heading south for an hour to Bloomington and visiting Mecca, but it might just be a temptation to venture off to see Bill..oh, and you too, Jay.
Could I bring my video camera and do an interview with both of you?
Where are the Butlers in relation to you, Indy, and Bloomington? I just might make a circle doing video interviews and then compile them into a DVD (to help pay for the trip).
Gary Anderson has a Raymond Chapman Memorial Room at his house....and I'm not even dead yet.

Bill and Jay, grand work, would love to be able to work long side Bill some day, education on the end of a brush.
Posted by John Arnott (Member # 215) on :
PLEASE......WHAT TYPE OF PAINT ARE YOU USING? It looks like 1 shot with Smiths Cream applied first.
Posted by Mark Fair Signs (Member # 289) on :
That is amazing pictorial skills. Thanks for sharing!
Posted by Jay Allen (Member # 195) on :
John Arnott/Deb . . . search for the old LH posts of prior murals . . . a full description of how these are being done has been written previously there.

Raymond, You are always welcome here. We don't have a suite but a great Murphy bed !We are about 3 hours north of Indy...but...we are coming down for the show. Shiloh and family are now there so we are babysitting for a few so they can take some time away. We need our Ray fix ! Great job Jody/Jay and Bill. Is Bill coming to Pontiac ? David and Suze
Posted by Raymond Chapman (Member # 361) on :
Susie - it will be great to see you and David again. I think that the "fix" situation is the other way around. I always feel inspired and renewed just being around you guys. David always makes me smile...along with everyone else.
Now, if I bring my video camera to Indy, do you think that I could get you and David to sit still long enough for me to do an interview with you? Just to be a part of the Letterhead legacy that I'm putting together.
Posted by Jay Allen (Member # 195) on :
Suze . . . MAYBE Bill is coming with us to Pontiac on May 1st . . . We have talked about it. With such a big project as this is, we'll just have to wait and see.
I'll tell him you're coming - as are Nancy and Dan - so maybe you will see him there. He'd ride down with Jody and myself . . .
