What are some of your resolutions for this new year?

I'm still thinking about mine, and will add soon.

My resolution for 2009 was not to make any more New Year's resolutions. Its the only one I've ever been able to keep so far. [Smile]

Since I have to prepare for the reopening of my shop next September, mine is to produce at least one piece of artwork a week. Can be a sample piece, portfolio work, small client project to fund shop upgrades, something for my kids, etc. Hoping I can stick to it, since I've never really done the New Year's Resolution thing before.

It was going to be figure out what inspires me. For I was losing inspiration about the whole art business. But out of the blue came a calendar. From Pontiac Illinois. My daughter's boyfriend was here. And I went in and explained every one. And then thought, why am I looking for inspiration to change my vocation? I just spent the last 1/2 hour showing someone a calendar. Then I thought, crap, he was already going out with Jordan when I went down there. I probably bore him to tears. But what a polite kid. And you know what? I think the calendar is just what I needed. I have spent the last 10 years researching my next career instead of concentrating on the one I have made a good living at.

I'm back.

Edited to add- Thank You Pontiac Illinois for the AWESOME Calendar. Thank you to my Letterville Friends who have made me realize I am doing what I like to do. I just have to concentrate on it.

Yes, ......now I don't need to make a resolution.

My resolution would be to continue doing what we have been doing for the last two and a half years. Enjoy retirement in Mexico and Canada.

I'd like to spend a bit more time driving around the interior of the Yucatan Peninsula, exploring and enjoying the sights and sites.

I hope that the economy and the markets continue to improve in 2010 so that those working can enjoy a prosperous year and those who are retired can see some of their investments and savings recover.

Happy New Year!!

Like Glenn, I made a resolution not to make any more resolutions a few years ago...

...and now I can't even say I've kept up with that one...

'Cause this year I want to get back into tackling more fun creative projects! [Smile]

I learned a long time ago not to make promises I can't keep.

I'm going to try to work out more, do more walking and lose a few pounds. Oh, and take more naps.

Shouldn't be too hard. I can already bench press 65 lbs., walk to the bathroom, and have only gained about 4 lbs. this year. Got a good start.

Step up the marketing of the shop: New Sign, new graphics on the shop van, better displays of the work I WANT to do, and maybe new shirts for the crew.

More focus on quality projects and actually turning down jobs that don't make a good profit for the time it takes to do them! That's a hard one for most of us who wonder if we shouldn't turn away ANY jobs.

Most of all, have more fun doing what I love to do in the sign/graphics business.

Oh one more; attend another Walldogs meet!

Sign-cerely ready for 2010, Steve

More fun. less stress, more money! Simple enuff.

I quit smoking a month ago and have been amazed how easy that was. Simple stuff, just had to get my arms around it first.

Been on my cardio diet and have lost 35 pounds and want to lose another similar amount to go hang out on the beach in Speedos!

Keep on living! That one is a must. Gotta be kind to my ticker.

I actually never made any resolution for any new year that I can remember and if I were to make one now I don't think at my age I would remember but in actuality around Christmas I actually delete people who aren't of value to our friendship before the new year, does that count?

Posted by Dan Sawatzky (Member # 88) on :

Each year between Christmas and New Year I like to review the last year, mentally take out my list of dreams and measure the progress we've made. Most of the goals we set are not small and often take years to pull off. Progress is best made in small steps on a daily basis. New Years is a time to take a look at our progress or lack of the same. It's also a time to resolve to do a little better in the next year.

Goals can be personal - like losing weight or getting myself in a little better shape. Better time management, doing small projects, paying off debt or a host of other goals are best done in tiny little, manageable bits. Judging how I am doing is done over the long haul. This allows for unforeseen things to happen - even a few steps backwards from time to time don't make the goals less achievable. The important thing is to go generally forward as best we can.

Some of my goals are somewhat controlled by other people or the economy in general or at least the speed at which they will happen.

Radical shifts in routine or too big a goal (at one time) in our sites make them much more unachievable.

Set small steps in your goals. Celebrate each victory along the way.

Happy New Year to everyone from Yarrow...

I'm going to get this Colitis under control and take back everything it took from me in 2009 with the exception of 40 lbs which it can keep! [Razz]
Seriously, I plan on working really hard to lick this thing and get back on my feet again. New specialist, new round of tests in the next month and hopefully new direction. Wish me luck. [Smile]
I'm also going to get my new shop built!!!!

You can do it, Kelly.

******

Wanda and I had a Credit Card party.

Over the last 10 years as we worked to get back on our feet from the floods, Wanda and I racked up over $35k in credit card debt and have been working to whittle down ever since. Except for the mortgage (which will be paid off in 3 more years) our plan is to be debt free before the end of 2010.

Last night we wrote checks for about $15k and paid off 4 more credit cards.

We celebrated by scaring the neighbors' dogs as we set off fireworks and tossed credit card confetti from the deck in the backyard. It was the most fun we'd had in the cold rain in a long time. [Smile]

All the best with that kelly, Glenn that's great news....

Good Luck Kelly.

Thanks for a great post Nettie [Smile]

We'll I've put on quit a few lbs this year, so I'm definitely going to get rid of them.

I'm going to stop procrastinating, and start making a lists of thing to do and following them throw.

All of you have given me some extra things to try and add to my to do list.

I hope all of you succeed in your resolutions and goals this year and that 2010 is the best year yet for all of us.

Mine were to start a jouranl and write in it a little bit before bed every night (recently read ones from my grandma, who passed away in 1951, which were written in the 20s-30s-40s) Santa brought me a little journal in my stocking.
The other was to start taking Omega fish oil for improved memory as recommended to me by my dear friend Tim Bird.
But I have already forgotten to do both things.
Maybe tonight.
Love....Jill

Jill, I'm wanting to get back to my omega 3 fish oil capsules too. I ran out a couple months ago, and haven't replenished yet. I miss them.
They do your skin a lot of good too!
