I am almost 8 months pregnant and have the most horrible urge to PAINT...but my husband says I can't. Is this stuff safe for me to use?

Why don't you just use latex for a bit? I know its not the best for hand lettering, but when you switch back to One Shot you will be thrilled with the vast improvement in your lettering skills. hehehe

Anything you eat, drink, or breathe can be trasferred to the baby. Breathing the vapours from any solvent is harmful.

No oil based paint is good for you when you are pregnant. It's really not worth the risk is it?

Think of it...paint and solvent fumes are really not even good for you under normal cicumstances, how much more of a problem are they to the system of an "unfinished" little child. Harmful chemicals can also enter your body through the skin (i.e. cleaning hands with thinner).

By the way, congratulations and best of luck for you and your family! [Smile]

As I recall, Jerry Seinfeld's dad was a sign painter.

Other than a sense of humor, I don't think OneShot hurt him a bit.

Your urge is gonna, havta wait. But only for a couple of months. After you have your child, your time will be filled in other ways. Congrats on your baby. What's your baby's name gonna be? You should let us Letterheads pick one for em.

How about 'Festus' if it's a boy.... always liked that name from the old Gunsmoke series..... [Wink] Just teasin.

Heck, I remember my first design comp class in college where we had to paint using acrylics..... teacher made a big deal about telling us to NEVER get that paint in our mouths, nor lick the brush even after rinsing it out because he had a 'friend' that did that on a fairly regular basis and it screwed him up and paralyzed him.

True? Dunno.... but I wasn't willing to test the theory.

And some selfish women smoke during pregnancy??? Duh!! And then wonder why the child has health issues, like being born underweight.

Adobe Meola. What do you think of that? works for a girl or boy.

Are mothers safe for 1-SHOT?

Not likely, but it could be. I think you, Miss Sarah, will be a great and graphic mom.

Well let me tell you a story! My daughter who is almost 23 months is a miracle baby!! I didn't find out I was pregant until I was 22 weeks. By this time I was working with 1 shot and whatever chemical you can find in a sign shop everyday. When I found out that I was pregant I was so scared. With working with all these chemicals that there was a high chance that something could go wrong. Without having regular appointments and all the things you go to do within those first five months of pregancy there was a very high chance. There was a lot of research on the chemicals I worked with and a lot of ultrasounds to make sure everything was formed properly.

Long story short she turned out perfectly fine. She is such a beautiful, smart little girl. We both were very lucky!! I thank God everyday that everything turned out fine. Very lucky!!

I know it's hard when you have the creative juices flowing but just think of all the wonderful things that you and your baby will be able to do together soon!! Before you know it your bundle of joy will be beside you painting away!! Congratulations and good luck!! Enjoy every minute!! Time flies by!!!!

Ok...I'm gonna be the odd one out...
I had the same concerns back when I was pregnant with all three of my kids. I asked the Obgyn about it and he said it was fine to continue painting with OneShot while I was pregnant. All of my kids were fine. Maybe that was by the grace of God. I tend to shy away from solvents now that I know more about them. I wouldn't want to put your baby at risk, or your relationship with your hubby. Maybe play with some watercolors for the time being...

I am an oddball too. I did it.
My doctor suggested wearing latex gloves when painting with 1S. I also had my lead levels checked (this was back when there was still lead in 1S) and they were fine.
I switched to water-based Deka when pregnant the third time, I had more trouble with the paint than my pregnancy.
All of my babies turned out healthy.
I also wore the gloves when painting the whole time my babies were nursing.
Love....Jill
