A customer just called and said his magnetic signs aren't sticking anymore. They're only 3 months old and he said when not in use, they roll them up for storage - could that cause them to de-magnetize themselves?

I wonder which way he rolls them... maybe they are conforming to that shape a little, which would make it much easier for the side to lift in the wind.

I asked if the truck was dirty or the magnets had been beat up or torn, but they are in good shape - just no stick left......

They ship the magnetic material rolled... so you wouldn't think rolling it after the graphics were on it would affect the magnetism...

/got nothing

Probably put them back to back.
In which case might cause them to run
out of juice.

I would contact the manufacturer of the magnetic, see what they think. The only time we've had problems with magnetic was when the vehicle was mostly bog!! We issue an instruction sheet with magnetics telling people how to care for them. One of the instructions is to store flat when not on the vehicle. The side of a fridge or freezer is always good.

Have him bring the vehicle by to see for yourself...could be he has a Body filler problem?

We always recommend the customer store there magnetic signs flat and on a steel surface like a steel door or the side of the refigerator.

We also offer no warantee on temporary signs (which Magnetic signs really are)

Still it sounds strange...I know they lose some of their grip when they are cold and if they've been rolled up I agree with others here...the customer is creating the problem not the material.

That's just weird. I never thought that magnetic material would 'de-magnetize'! I might re-do the magnets, after I saw that they don't stick anymore for myself and after I contacted the manufacturer of the material to see if this has happened before and why.

Store it flat.
Storing it rolled- sure it comes that way, but not once you sell it- storing it rolled after use makes it more likely to want to lift or not sit flat & stick with less strength.

Contact the manufacturer, Sonny. If they're still under warranty, which they should be, they may have you ship them back and re-magnetize them.

I don't know the policy of your supplier, but several years ago, in Cincinnati, the manufacturer did that for us a couple of times.

I agree with Monte.
Have them bring the vehicle by and try one of your blank magnets. If there is body filler, it won't stick. Just try the magnet on your fridge first.

about a year ago I had a roll of mag that when the manufacturer did a test on it, found that it was lacking the approved "lbs per area" holding power. I may not have the exact phrase right, but the mag was bad from the roll. The manufacturer also questioned the make, model and years of vehicles they were on, because they seemed to think the metal in cars is not what it used to be... and that's another thing... I went to put mags on a Saturn years ago.. mags don't stick to plastic doors.
