Dale, Great shots of transom lettering, however traditional Roman and personalized script has changed considerably with todays modern (vendors)equipment. Caught that show by chance a few years back. It was that perfect hot summer day with all the chrome and varnish reflecting so that one needed to squint even through sun glasses. Was there with friends staying at my weekend cabin on lake Sacandaga 45 minutes west from Lake George. Rit Pistari, who is one critical perfectionest and shares my eye for correct replication also expressed admiration of the efforts accomplished by those who enterd their boats in the show. Rit by the way just drove Kenny Bernsteins sons AA/F at the last national meet (red light) 330 something mph.

Nice boats Dale,
As I was going through them I was thinking about the boat show we have here in the Cheneaux Islands and was suprised to see one of them in the first transom shot I looked at.
If I had to take a guess at it, I believe John Granier from Up North Studios may have done that one.
He does alot of them and is a great Leafer. I love his photos of restored safes.

Dale, great shots! Have you ever been to Alexandria Bay or Clayton, N.Y.? They have some great shows there too. I used t live in NNY and have been to Lake George and all along the St. Lawrence river area, some really nice boats all along the valley.

Hey Don, Haven't been to either of those yet!
I'll do some more exploring over there sometime when I get the chance....nice area.
Would like to go up to Lake Placid village this winter and make a bob sled run!
I love the Hacker Craft boat with two Big Block (454's) chevy engines in it! I'll have to see if I can fit another one in the old 69 Camaro...bet that hasn't been done yet???

Although I don't think I'd ever want a wooden boat, just from the maintenance costs involved, there surely isn't anything any more beautiful on the water. When I was in Cincinnati, a friend of mine, who owns the Wooden Boat Shop, had me do all his lettering, leaf, and deck striping on the boats he restored and/or refinished.
I was around during the dismantling and replacement of boards, all the way up to the final varnishing. It's quite an extensive process, and an on-going one. These boats are meant to be in the water. When you take them out and the wood dries out, all the seams pop apart; they will sink like a rock if you put them into the water in this condition.
Many of our customers used to go to some huge show up in Michigan somewhere (brain-fog precludes my remembering what lake it was now, but I can find out if you're interested). It was supposedly very prestigious, but I never made it up.
I still stop by his shop when I'm up north, and he still has work, but it seems things have slowed down a bit. He used to be backed up on work for a year at a time. Now, it's a couple of months. That's probably Bush's fault too.
Beautiful shots, Dale....brought back many memories.
