Congratulations Mikey, Time passes quickly, was that a chicken coop we were painting in Walnut, that weekend was fuzzy for me?
A few more of us have seen the light since then and cut back or quit.
Best of luck. Hope things are going good for you after moving back to Mazeppa.

All across the Midwest, from the Walls of Walnut to the shores of Gitchtee Goomee and the fertile plains of Illinois, bars and breweries fly their flags at half mast today; grown men put down their glass, doff their hats, wipe a tear from the corner of their eye, and in honor of one of the greatest sign men and salvers who ever drew breath, say "there, but for the grace of old Augie Busch, go I".
He still smokes a mean cigar though...
Drunk or Dry, Meyer, you're still my hero. Posted by Cam Bortz (Member # 55) on :

The misuse of drugs, especially alcohol, has always been a big problem in my Family. I made my decision to stop back in 1983.
It's been 24 years, but I still hear a small voice trying to convince me that today's Steve has changed. Inside I know it's just not true.
It's always a big laugh to hear the embaressing stories from my drinking days, but I really don't want to go back there. Congrats Mike.

Happy six years amigo! At first I thought you were celebrating Cince de Mayo. and you know what you do resemble T-Roosevelt. Well today I'll have Grain Belt for you, and say to the best sign painter I know, Que Viva Mike Meyer!!!

It seems this site has a lot of ex-drinkers as members. Your reason for quiting is a unique one. (Not to say abuse is not a darn good reason to quit!)
I say good for you Mike. You are obviously proud of your decision or you wouldn't have mentioned it on a sign site.
Whatever the reason may be, it's a difficult thing to do & I truely commend those who make the decision to do so.
I respectfully tip my drink to you.

this site is more 50/50 signs and guns/religon/politics/cake pictures/health clubs/dogs/hockey/obese vegetarians and whatever else you can think of..I'm just trying to fit in. It has more than ex-drinkers Mr. Bendel.! Have a Grain Belt for me, (I know they sell it in Sauk Rapids)!

Good on ya Mikey.
It would be hard to make the decision and stay with it.
I quit the easy way.
Wife's company Christmas party in '96... I ordered my usual bourbon and sprite... took one drink... tasted nasty as hell... sit it back down and asked for a Coke. Still today, if I think about having a drink, I get a taste of that one. Haven't wanted one since.
Stay "High on life" and you don't need the additives.

Congrats, Mike!! I have never been much of a drinker, but I really think it doesn't matter WHAT a person get hooked on (booze, eating, gambling), it's the EXCESS that does them in.... Glad you are happy with your decision and it is working for you! That "international meet test" is a doozer, isn't it!!! Posted by Suelynn Sedor (Member # 442) on :

My uncle is a bad alcoholic, so are several of Tonia's relatives. I feel that liquor also helped kill my dad. So congrats to all you quitters!

I am so happy for you Mike!!! I RARELY have sip of anything. I just feel too good without it, & just a week ago, I was having dinner with a couple of old friends & we were reminiscing about "old times". They can stay just that...old times. I have way too much going for me now.
As for the Teddy pics, I have said that before myself, you DO look so much like him! I was reading article about him in the hospital waiting to get tests done last summer, & that us when I saw it. "Hey, that guy looks like someone I know!"
You are much better looking in my opinion! Posted by Chad Jeske (Member # 5866) on :
Congratulations Mike. Now we just need to focus on your "signaholism". Course, you seem to be a pretty happy signaholic.
