I intensely dislike taking drugs unless I absolutely have to, I've been treating myself for anxiety and insomnia with natural remedies for 20 years.
I also use aromatherapy oils in the burner to help with relaxation and general well being. You're probably not up to massage yet Frank but it's a huge help with nerve damage and after a big hit like that your vertebrae probably needs to be massaged back into their correct alignment. I had a massive horse riding accident when I was 20 and I've found regular massage stops me from being in pain. I hope this helps in some way. Looking forward to hearing that you're feeling new again!! Hope Scotty is chasing balls soon too.

Thank you Anne; couple of those items were of interest, may prove helpful...
OP; also thanks, but isn't healing the goal? This sounds more like how to do a hit on guy that nailed me... (I know, up yurs...lol)
Micheal; True story!!! Scotty reduced Boone's 50' hose to about 26/30" in five days...lol (he overheard, sitting here licking his chops, wonder what's on his mind? lol)

Frank, arnica's a herb- and it has unbelievable 'bruise disintergrating' and swelling reducing properties, i.e. bigtime healing quickly! If the swelling can be shrunk, pain disappears pretty promptly.

Hey Jon, lock that floosey of a dog up, she's trouble.....heheheh, corrupt my otherwise straight laced Scotty.....lol, and if Scotty wasn't cut, they might make good pups...
Ian, stopped at chinese village on way back from doctors today, got a bottle of arnica, going to try it, pain is getting to point I'm considering recending my stand and take some meds...doc gave me plenty today, probably out of guilt...he bent me every which way to do a series of tests, more tomorrow, in fact tommorrow is CTI AND MRI day...still got something wrong inside, this doctor doesn't feel it's the kidney, we'll see...but went home more sore than when I arrived...knee and hip quit hurting, and doc thinks hip is damaged, oh good...oh well, might as well get it all out and veiwable so I can fix what I want and, I guess, trash what's left? lol
Going prone, later all...

Just document everything Frank...ask for copies of written things like lab reports, etc. Just good stuff to have around. If something doesn't heal then you may need this stuff to claim damages. I'd even get copies of police report and anything else that's around.

frank....look at the drugs he gave ya....any LORITAB/HYDROCODONE 7.5/ACETAMINOPHEN....take pil and break in half....try that 1st....sould give you some relife from pain......if 1/2 dont then take a whole on......i been taken em since the surgury in jan 2005...but only when my back hurst so bad i want to scream........ the ARNICA wont do much for pain but it works internally for the BRUISES mostly will help with some pain but better for the helpin the bruises.

Frank, I'm all for alternative medicine as the docs are coming around with that too; that's why they have the Physicians Desk Reference (Herbal addendum) in their offices. They can check on anything that you may want to use in case you're on some other meds and need to see if it's going to be safe. Good luck. (keep that diary on a calendar each day if possible; it's what the attorneys want more than anything.)

Even old dogs occasionally learn something new, I'm not bad already on the keeping track of the paperwork thing, but had never really done a diary, thanks to your suggestions, a calendar diary exists now, it didn't take long to see why it was reccommended, easy to do and makes a record that is profound when veiwed as such w/a calendar...thanx (attorney agreed, he likes idea too)
As far as the meds Joe, so far the arnica has showed no ill side effects, and seems to be working, pain there is diminishing, not so w/meds for the other stuff, hard to keep down, has made me highly irregular, it's also had another side effect that really isn't appropiate to discuss here, but annoying none the less, heheh, if you've caught my drift...where were these pills when I was a young party-hound; virile and ready at a drop of a pin? It's not fair I say, lol...
Anyways, after a day of MRI's and CTI's (4 and 2 respectfully), I'm beat up again, threw meds up again, take another batch, get prone, try to get some sleep, nite all... Posted by Susan Daniel (Member # 6092) on :

Hey Frank! I'll have you know that your accident has worried the socks off of both of us here! I hope you and Scotty are on the mend to a not-too-long recovery. Right now I'm one of the night shift Charge nurses working on the Rehab unit of our Level II Trauma hospital. We pretty much see it all: motor vehicle wrecks, motorcycle wrecks, vehicle vs. pedestrian accidents, etc., etc.
To be honest with ya Frank, I'm more than a little concerned about some of the recommendations here suggesting that you take the herb Arnica. I guess apalled would be more accurate. As Don knows, I have been into herbal remedies for years and years so I'm not here to yap that all herbal remedies are bad.
First of all, it's already been determined that you have some internal trauma (spleen) from the accident. Unfortunately, Arnica is well known to be quite poisonous when taken internally. From pdrhealth.com, "Ingested Arnica may cause nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, coma and death." From drugguide.com, "Systemic absorption may result in nausea, vomiting, organ damage, hypertension, cardiotoxicity, arrhythmias, muscular weakness, collapse, vertigo, renal dysfunction, coma and death. If ingested orally, induce emesis and gastric lavage to remove undigested contents. "
This concerns me even more now that I see you've already been having some of the adverse reactions such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. The typical drugs given for pain control after traumatic injuries such as yours are Percocet, Vicodin, Roxanol (i.e. Morphine Sulfate), Oxycontin, Demerol, Dilaudid, etc. Morphine *will* make some folks sick with nausea and vomiting, but the others generally don't. Also, none of these standard pain meds cause diarrhea..actually, they do the opposite. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'm afraid that the Arnica could be causing more damage to your body organs instead of giving you some relief.
Sorry to ramble on and on, but I'm just a worried friend.
much love and worry, Susan

Arnica has been used to assassinate people; no known antidote. But that's when it's given internally as a poison. I don't think anyone takes it internally on purpose to cure anything.
As a fix-up for bruises, however, it's miraculous and God-given. I was skeptical when I tripped & fell on stuff in our laundry room a coupla years ago and my wife put some arnica gel on my back. The pain stopped INSTANTANEOUSLY. This December I smashed my thigh on a timber on the playground and had a super- bruise or contusion or whatever. It was as big as a tennis ball, purple, and almost hemispherical. No one had to tell me to use the arnica this time.

if you know anything about HOMEOPATHIC MEDICINE...you also know that the amount of the main chemical is is so diluted as to RENDER IT HARMLESS... another homeopathic medicine is BELADONNA... deadly poison when given in full dosage, but in the 3x-10x state it tend to heal rather then harm. most homeopathic sold are 3x-10X, so i think you need to go back a read more of YOUR COPY of the MATERIA MEDICA & THE HOMEOPATHIC BIBLE......before you give people the wrong idea of what homeopathic medicine is.

Frank, give yourself a lot of healing time. You might have pain for months, and it's okay. You might even have problems for years, that's okay too. Your here and we all love you.

I've been using Dit Da Jow for fast relief of bruisings and increased blood flow for around 40 years. I won't get into my past and personal life but this stuff works and has for many centuries.
