Just when we thought the FDA really was looking out for our health and wellbeing.....

Beware of Canola Oil
Canola Oil is an Industrial Oil Not Fit For Human Consumption.

It's amazing to me...The more research I do, the more I see a relationship between the food we eat and fatal diseases. Canola oil is no exception. Readers of EOO are familiar with the meat industry practice of feeding rendered meat "by-products" to cattle and poultry (EOO #015), and the suspected relationship of Mad Cow Disease to CJD and Alzheimer's Disease (EOO #016). Now comes information that Canola Oil is the suspected causative agent for Scrapie, a viral disease transmitted to cattle who were fed rendered sheep infected with Scrapie. Both Scrapie and Mad Cow Disease destroy the brain's ability to function. They literally eat the brain away, causing blindness, loss of mind and erratic behavior.

Canola oil's real name is "LEAR" oil (Low Erucic Acid Rape). It is more commonly known as "rape oil," a semi-drying oil that is used as a lubricant, fuel, soap and synthetic rubber base, and as an illuminant to give color pages in magazines their slick look. In short it is an industrial oil that does not belong in the human body. It is typically referred to in light industry as a penetrating oil.

Back in the 1980's, rape oil was widely used in animal feeds in England and throughout Europe. It was banned in 1991. Since then, Scrapie in sheep has totally disappeared. While that's good for Europeans, it is bad for Americans because the problem is now ours. Rape seed oil (Canola oil) is widely used in thousands of processed foods...with the blessings of our own government.

Canola oil was first developed in Canada. It's proponents claim that due to genetic engineering and irradiation, it is no longer rape oil, but "canola" (Canadian oil). They also claim it is completely safe, pointing to it's unsaturated structure and digestibility. Although, I could not verify it, it is claimed the Canadian government paid the FDA the sum of $50 million dollars to have canola oil placed on the GRAS list (Generally Recognized As Safe). However it was done, a new industry was created.

The truth is however, that rape is the most toxic of all food oil plants. Not even insects will eat it. No wonder farmers like growing it. It turns out that rape is a member of the mustard family of plants, and is the source for the chemical-agent, mustard gas, which causes blistering on skin and lungs when inhaled. Mustard Gas was banned after WWI for this very reason.

Studies of canola oil done on rats indicate many problems. Rats developed fatty degeneration of heart, kidney, adrenals andthyroid gland. When the canola oil was withdrawn from their diet, the deposits dissolved, but scar tissue remained on the organs. Why were no studies done on humans before the FDA placed it on the GRAS list?

Consumed in food, Canola oil depresses the immune system, causing it to "go to sleep." Canola oil is high in glycosides which cause health problems by blocking (inhibiting) enzyme function. it's effects are accumulative, taking years to show up. One possible effect of long term use is the destruction of the protective coating surrounding nerves called the mylin sheath. When this protective sheath is gone, our nerves short-circuit causing erratic, uncontrollable movements.

To test the industrial penetrating strength of canola oil, soak a towel in both canola oil and regular vegetable oil. Pre-treat and wash the towel in your clothes washer and compare the area the two oils occupied...you will notice an oil stain remains on the area soaked in canola oil. It is so durable, it could take several washings to completely remove. Now if this is how canola oil penetrates the fabric of a towel, what damage can it do in our body?

Because canola oil is so cheap, it is now widely used in the food industry. If you are curious, just read a few food labels the next time you are in the grocery store. A good example can be found with commercially prepared peanut butter. In order to give peanut butter it's spreadability, Jiffy, Peter Pan and Skippy brands remove ALL of the natural peanut oil and replace it with canola oil. Natural peanut butter should only have peanuts and salt listed in the ingredients.

If you want to use natural peanut butter, it's available in most stores next to the canola peanut butter. Stir the contents to mix the oil and peanuts together then store in the refrigerator. The cold temperature will prevent the peanut oil from separating. Best of all, you will have eliminated at least one source of a potential food hazard.

Food consumers have headaches enough, without worrying about a toxic plant oil being added to their food. The problem is you will find canola oil in bread, margarines, and all manner of processed foods. But the consumer is king. Be informed and make it a practice to read what goes into your food. Avoid using canola as a cooking oil and salad oil. It is not a healthy oil.

[For Your Information]
We grow Canola Oil, I'm curious as to the source of this article.

While I don't have the time to comment on the whole write up, this comment cracked me up....

Flea Beetles can demolish a field of Canola in a couple of days. Google canola + insects and you should find there are about 15 different insects that eat the canola.

I'd take this with a grain of salt, and some canola oil. [Rolling On The Floor]

CAN-OLA...CANADA OIL COMPANY......it was originaly produced to compete in INDUSTRIAL MARKETS. that is the truth.........

I don't know if there is any truth to this but I heard that the Canadians invented this to try and kill off all the Americans so they could get the warm part for themselves. I was up in Canada, shooting chickens with my small arsenal of pistols, when I heard that ...but I didn't believe it. Does it surprise me that the FDA would actually put penetrating oil on the GRAS list? No. It would probably make a good brush oil, LOL.

We always buy Canola or Peanut Oil over Vegatable Oil - Vegatable Oil = Cottonseed Oil = many dangerous herbicides in growing cotton - - -

[Rolling On The Floor] I love it!

Still, we try to stick with EVOO here (extra virgin olive oil) and real butter.

I always get a kick out of scare articles like this.

Even if the stuff were bad for you, it pales in comparison to all the other poisons people voluntarily put into their bodies every day.

Aside from the obvious fast foods and junk foods, 95% of the foods on grocery store shelves are so heavily processed they don't even have any nutritional value left in them anymore, and the foods that are marketed as "healthy" are completely negated by the volume of sodium and other preservatives in them.

It's sad really. People leave their fate up to food companies to provide them with nutrition and there ain't a damn nutritious thing in the grocery store because it's all about shelf life and profit.

Ricky, it was so cold up there before global warming set in that our poor boys had to burn their draft cards to keep warm. I think the canola was also intended to make them cards burn longer.

Ricky I don't know whether there is any truth to that vicious rumour, but I too have heard it. Canadians DO want to get rid of you folks so we can take the warmer areas. But we have a plan for it. We have taken a fellow from Georgia who wanted to go through our country on a little jaunt of his (he tried to take weapons through- HAHAHA little did he know everybody else is allowed to take them through) and we put him in jail and played Anne Murray to him backwards whilst he rested, unbeknowing. In our "secret message" we brainwashed him into thinking he was still American but changed his citizenship to Canadian. We fed him Canola Oil and beer (cause that's all we produce)in our vicious plot to take over the warmer climate- floods, hurricanes, torrential rains and all- cause we really don't like snow. And then we sent him home to send messages to him whilst he sleeps. [Rolling On The Floor] [Rolling On The Floor]

I could believe that Canola is/was an industrial oil, which it might be also. BUT it is the oil extracted from a PLANT (the kind of plant that grows in the ground, not a concrete building type plant)..not petroleum.

I don't see what the big deal is about it first having been produced by the "Canada Oil Company"?

Maybe peanut oil was first produced by the "Georgia Oil Company" as an industrial lubricant??? [I Don t Know] [I Don t Know]

Edited to add..I think I remember reading that olive oil was first produced by an ancient Italian company who developed it in order to facilitate the lifting of stones to the top of the Tower of Pisa. Apparently, after the tower's blocks started sliding off kilter, they decided to market the oil as a human-safe cooking oil!! [Rolling On The Floor] [Rolling On The Floor]

Don't even start me on Cod Liver Oil..now THAT stuff tastes REALLY nasty..IT should be used only for industrial purposes! [Bash] [Bash]

Yeah, that cod liver oil is so bad those fish are dying to get rid of it!

"Today about 75% of the Canola crops planted in Alberta, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan are GM (genetically modified food) herbicide-tolerant varieties."
I'm still not touching anything with CGH (Canoloa Growth Hormones) in it...rumour has it you'l grow a third eyeball in your ear.

"In 2004, North Dakota produced 91% of the Canola in the United States."
I guess they're gettin' tired of the cold, too.

"Compared with sunflower, corn, peanut, and many other oils, Canola has a low ratio of saturated to unsaturated fat."
Compared to cod liver oil, it tastes like chamapgne according to some residents of Granton, Ontario and Carrolton, Texas.

"The canola blossom is a major source of nectar for honeybees."
That explains why they are so tired all the time, have chronic coughs and fly in irratic patterns.

"Canola oil is a promising source for manufacturing biodiesel, a renewable alternative to fossil fuels."
The downside is that when they make hybrid for this stuff, a fender bender could turn into a 15 car pile up when everyone hits oil on the road.

Slip sliding away...

We fry all our food in Neatsfoot oil or 10-50wt, this way its always ready to cook winter or summer and I buy in bulk. I've found only processed canned food tastes best, none of that organic stuff for us it just doesn't taste real beside, we get all our food from the mission or church on Sundays. Last night during our Spam dinner my wife brought out a surprize dessert, pudding in a plastic container with CoolWhip ummm, my favorite. Tonight I'll be making the Dinty Moores beef stew with instant mashed potatoes and canned veggies. For dessert I'm going to surprize the family by a fruit salad I've found in the dumpster behind Safeway, ummmm good [Big Grin]

Jill??

if so, i want to get some whilst(Deri, you've got no hold on whilst... [Rolling On The Floor] ) in Dixie.

should be No Problem as carry-on, eh???

Joey, just make sure the 10W-50 is synthetic. Spam tastes "gamey" when fried in the other stuff.

John...
No canned Scrapple here, only "fresh".
I love that nasty stuff.
If I was going to Dixie I might try to take it in checked baggage....but you would get busted with it at the border.
Several folks were busted with Haggis on my check-in to the US! Haggis, BTW has a very similar flavor to Scrapple.
Just like canola and rape fields look identical from the air.
love....Jill

Yeah but I can tell ya, it hasn't worked on me in the least. I do indeed wear an aluminum foil hat to bed; I have not had the first alien abduction or alien anal probe since wearing it. ...but strangely enough, I'm watching a LOT less football in favor of ice hockey lately and my taste in beer has gone from the usual Bud to Molson. Other than that I'm perfectly normal with no side effects.

Oh I gotta tell you about a strange dream I had about a week ago. I dreamed that Shania Twain and I were nekkid, sitting in a beanbag eating a bag of Cheetos and I was writing a song. The lyrics are just clear as a bell. I've been thinking about publishing it; I think it's just that good. I don't normally post my songs for public viewing but since I trust all of you not to steal my work, *especially* my Canadian friends, I will make a rare exception. Here are the lyrics to it:

O Canada!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.

With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!

From far and wide,
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

Neatsfoot Oil...I haven't seen that stuff since I lived at home! We used to put it on my dads work boots. We also used mink oil from a Kiwi can.

Think I'll go make me some canola pudding. Sugar free of coarse with Nutra Sweet..or better yet Saccharin! Yum [Wink] Hey, where's my aluminum sauce pan [I Don t Know]

It's almost lunch time. Diet Coke for me...gotta feed that tumor! [Rolling On The Floor]

OP, I've stopped using artificial sweetners and use Sucanat instead, everyone tells me to use Stivia, but it's just WAY too bitter for me.

Bet Canola would be a good brush oil....
