I'm considering buying equipment to begin doing sublimation for t-shirts and a few other items.

What are some of the better choices for equipment and why? Is the equipment hard to learn and can you print on papers such as bristol board?

Thanks for any information.

The only thing I had against Sub style printing
on shirts is that polyester is the only shirt
you can print on according to vendors.
Sometimes inner outer shirts.
Most folks want cotton.

John,

I'd recommend checking out TropicalGraphics.Com. They have a wealth of information you may find useful.

We have an Epson 4000 printer using the Tropical dye sub inks. We use the SoftLink shirts which are a tow layer shell shirt. More expensive but cotton against the body and poly on the outside. A nice shirt for short runs but pricy if you get into big orders.

You might also check out http://www.sublimation.info/index.html
that's the website of Texas Original Graphics, they have challenged the Sawgrass patent (Sawgrass owns Tropical Graphics now) and have inks available at a much better price than Tropical or Sawgrass. Also check out www.dyesub.org it's a good source of info.
The Softlink shirts Bob mentioned are really nice high end shirts.....but miserably hot in the summer, and expensive close to $5 each, but so are the poly shirts.

Aren't you able to print on cotton with Sawgrass products?

Sawgrass came out with a system for cotton shirts a few years ago I think it was called Natura but they have informed the people who invested in those special printers that they won't support them anymore.
