Sal

My kit came in today and it was packaged exceptionally well...and definately worth the money. As a long time woodworker, I could not have come close to making it for the money.

Thanks

Saw the same kit at Sams for $90.00

Posted by Don Coplen (Member # 127) on :

The same kit or a kit that looks the same? Looks can be deceiving, particularly when the word "Sams" is thrown into the mix.

Posted by Ginger Austin (Member # 699) on :

its the Exact same one...I bought one...oak venner finish felt lined drawers...the little mirror on the top...exact...to big to carry on jobs...don't have it with me or I would tell you the brand name...

Posted by Ginger Austin (Member # 699) on :

the first photo Sal displays is on the box of the one I bought at sams, I was gonna purchase one from him...glad I waited

Wow! Ginger, I wish I had pay that money for the one I'm selling. I think you got a good deal.
Thanks to let me know , Next time I will check around specially at the place that you are shopping!

$220 - $90 = A pretty good profit out of a Letterhead's pocket.

heres the box I got from Sams, except mine had the mirror on the top.. if the link doesn't work go to Sams Club and search tool boxes

Now, that was just plain mean. Sal is a good guy and I'm sure he's an honest, well meaning one, too.

If someone found that kit at Sam's for way less money, that doesn't mean that someone here was taking advantage. Sam's has all sorts of stuff that is cheaper than can be gotten elsewhere. Hell, I bought a nice 54" television for $799 at Sam's, two years ago. That same tv would have been $1200 elsewhere. That doesn't mean the store that's selling the tv for $1200 is ripping off their customers, does it?

Personally I think I'll get this one....

http://www.mytoolstore.com/gerstner/52.html

At $679, it looks to be almost identical......

It all depends where you shop - Sal's price still looks reasonable to me.

I wouldn't go to Sam's club if you gave me a gift card. Owned by Walmart nuff said~

Personaly I don't think it was in good taste to post a link to Sam's club for that box on Sal's thread or even mention it to begin with here in Sal's thread.

especially 2 weeks before christmas. [Roll Eyes]

Yep

still stand by my thanks to sal.

I would not go to Sam's for all the money in the world...and not having to go is worth any cost difference!...to say the least of the profit to sal and not wally.

Wally is killin us and folks are too blind to see it!

Well it did not take you ppl long to get personal, lol, I was only pointing out that I found the same box for 89 and change at Sam`s club and the money I saved I can spend on other things. This was not ment to slam Sal only that I found the same thing at a better price.

Posted by Ryan Long (Member # 5881) on :

I shouldn't have gotten personal and jumped to a conclusion, maybe he did pay twice as much (wholesale) for what Sam's charges (retail)...BUT I sure don't see the harm in someone pointing out that there's a place where you can get 2 of these kits for that price and still have enough change left for a decent dinner. We're not talking a few bucks here. Maybe some folks here have enough money that $130 difference doesn't much matter, but I sure don't.

Maybe a lot of assumptions are being made here.
Sal's kit does not look to be veneer to me.

yeah.. but his description also says "solid wood" ..so maybe the wood "behind the scenes" is pine... but what is yours? maybe particle board... waiting to swell up & disintegrate if you ever spill a liquid in there?

...I'm not saying your is junk for sure... but I don't see why you are so quick to be SURE in your claims about this.

We all know you usually get what you pay for... most of us also know occassionally places like Sams club has things because of abusive business practices that hook in vendors, then pull the plug on thier most important account untill they get items nearly at cost.. thereby putting the vendor out of business or forcing them to move production out of the US (look at Levi's for example)

Both of these things probably are not made in the US anyway... but low cost foriegn manufacturing is also producing Apples & Oranges, so it's your rush to judgement that has people defending Sal.. it's not simply stating a deal you found, but stating that it is the same item when I'm just not convinced that you can know that.

Posted by Bob Rochon (Member # 30) on :

Yep,

Doug, I have to agree. Stating a good deal is one thing. Standing out front of a man's shop telling all potential customers that are walking in, that you can get the "same exact" thing cheaper down the road at another shop is just plain cruel.

And I'd bet if the shoe was on the other foot, things would be viewed a bit different.

Nuff said on my end. [Eek!]

solid wood drawers, oak veneer finish...thats what I read....excuse me for pointing out the difference in cost and it is the same box...sorry so many of you got offended..being a single mom saving the $130 + the shipping is alot at xmas time...I would hope that if someone here saw the same item at less cost they would share that...I thought thats what this site was for.

all this would be mute if you all followed your own rules as per the "user agreement"..."This is not the spot for commercial advertising. If you have a product our users should know about, please call us about becoming a Letterville Merchant. Blatant advertising will be moved to the Supplier's SoapBox or removed!"

Posted by Kissymatina (Member # 2028) on :

Sal, you didn't have to tell us what you pay for them. I think donating your last one to the draw is a wonderful thing for you to do. Really shows me you have a great heart, as if I had any doubt about that.

Ginger. With all due respect, you are in danger of putting your foot in your mouth.

I appreciate you looking out for our interests, but you never checked with us to make sure you understood what was happening here.

Letterville is not just another sign website. Many of us have met in person and been friends for 20 years or more. That's why it is so important to attend a live meet. Until that happens, there's just no way a person can fully understand this thing we call Letterheads.

Sal called us well in advance of making his post. Sal is a fellow Letterhead who found a deal on signkits and offered them to us. He is not a Merchant. I applaud his efforts to generate some extra cash. It's not the first sign we've done this and it sure won't be the last.

Hope this clears up any misunderstandings. If anyone ever feels there is something amiss in Letterville, just pickup the phone and give us a call at 519-787-2673. We're always up until midnight.

So who exactly is "Ginger Austin"? Methinks I smell something....anyone up for a troll hunt?

This post is starting to go a whole different direction than Sal intended.

Until we find out different, we have to trust and assume that all registered users are who they say they are. It's not unusual for the Community to be curious about new names in town, but we can't be running around playing Detective. It's just not real friendly.
