I've had customers come in with ads like that, usually sell them at my price!

1) they want it asap
2) they would like an "idea" of what it can look like
3) I walk away when they demand too much for too little
4) they can see and feel my banner material and banners hanging, the quality is here v/s the unknown/unseen on the net

Even though it's only around $165 for what you discribed according to Estimate.

Hi Jeff,

The other day, a guy called my shop:

Ring, ring...

Me: Vital Signs

Him: Do you have any of those cheap-@ss, bullsh!t signs?

Me: What?

Him: I'm looking for some of those cheap-@ass, bullsh!t signs.

Me: Cheap-@ss, bullsh!t signs! We don't have no stinking cheap-@ss, bullsh!t signs!

Him: What?

Me: Our minimum order starts at one million dollars!

Him: (silence)

Me: That's right, one million dollars.

Him: No, no, no, I saw one of them signs on the street, 100 signs for 99 cents each. Do you do them?

Me: I can't afford to do anything for 99 cents each!

Him: Well, I'm lookin' for some cheap signs, and I need a lot of them.

Me: How many do you need?

Him: 10

Me: Ha! What do you do for a living?

Him: Home maintenance

Me: You mean, you're a handy man?

Him: Well, yeah, sorta.

Me: What do you want on these cheap-@ass, bullsh!t signs?

Him: (a list)

Me: Wow, that's a lot of stuff! You want all that on these cheap-@ss signs?

Him: Of course, that's what I do. I want to advertise.

Me: Do you do your work for cheap?

Him: No!

Me: Me neither!

Him: How much do you charge for 10 of these signs?

Me: $25.00 each

Him: For 10?

Me: Yep, $25.00 each!

Him: I figured maybe $3.00 each!

Me: Well sir, I suggest you go back to where you seen that sign on the street, and order 100 of them for 99 cents each. Good luck!

Priceless, Cheryl [Rolling On The Floor]

I got a phone call last week:

"Are you selling cheap Coroplast signs?"
"No, I don't!---But I do sell Coroplast signs"
silence
"Well...how much for a 2'x2'with(reads the text)"
"$37 each"
"$37??!How much if I take 3?"
"$37 each"
silence
"I only need it for a month, you know. I can rent a sign for that"
"Up to you, sir"
"I'll be thinking about it"
KLICK
Next day
"I'll be taking those signs, but only two"
"Great, I can have them done tomorrow"
"Oh, I need them today!"
"Tomorrow morning, 11:00 at the earliest"
"That doesn't fit my schedule, I'll have to think about whether I want them then"
KLICK
Three hours later
"I'll come for the signs tomorrow at 1:30"
--No, I didn't say, "How come it suddenly fits your schedule?" [Bash] [Big Grin]

Jeff - What were you thinking? I could beat that price. They'd be $107.28 each. In quantities of 100 or more. Done deal [Smile]

Lotti: The rental thing reminded me of a recent experience. You should have said,"Oh! You only need them for a month?? In that case, I can rent them to you for $37 a month each!"

Hiya Jeff,

I have a vendor that will sell me a full color banner with hems and grommets @ less than $4 a square foot. It's a solvent based inkjet print on 13 oz. banner material. He has no minimum order and he'll even deliver it to me for free.

So, I could make money at the internet price qoute, throw in a "free design" and still come out ahead of the game. Shipping and handling would be extra though [Smile]

Havin' fun,

Checkers

$10 a s.f. is good money for a banner.

I can make good money on them digitally printing them in house. At $1.00 a s.f. my cost, and selling them for $10 s.f. I can have it done in a half hour. These days vinyl can't compete with digital printing. The labor is what kills you with the weeding, taping and application involved. Not to mention the cost of the vinyl and application tape as compared to ink.

I'm enjoying banners now for the first time in a long time. Easy money!

Cheryl & Lottie have cooked up and flavored the recipe for this bad meat, and turned it into a cure. For anyone who wants to work fast & cheap, this is what you will hear and what you are getting into. If you like it, maybe you're cured. Whatever, C & L's exchange belong in the archives.

Cheryl, 100 signs at 99 cents each: easy!

Print one basic design on a bit of A4 or foolscap paper, and photocopy 99 more of them for him. Maybe throw in a packet of thumb tacks or drawing pins.
