Hi Heads.
Last week I posted a thread entitled "A Relic".
I feel this addition deserves a post of its own.
I went to deliver Giovanni's stickers today.
Yesterday when he visited he said he had a book he wanted me to see.

Today when I went to his office, he wasn't there. I thought I'd just leave his stuff, but I waited a bit. The mulleted kid at his desk said, "Oh yeah. He said to tell you not to leave without that book."

Sitting on a torn chair like an old flat shoebox was.... Atkinson.
Just then Giovanni pulled in in his beat-up mini van. He had a fresh haircut and looked like Dapper Dan. He says, "Hey don't forget that book!"

I reverently picked it up and asked if it was just to look at or to keep. He said "It looks like it's right up your alley. Keep it!"

It is dated 1915, and in pretty good shape. It belonged to his father. The picture I'm adding was used as a bookmark where the alphabets start.

I always wanted an Atkinson. I have the soft-cover reprint which I use religiously. I'm almost afraid to touch it. Mom always said if you want something, you eventually get it.

It is the nicest thing anyone has ever given me. My hair is standing on end as I type this. Just wanted to share.
Love...Jill

Wow, Jilly!

Your mom was right! You finally got what you wanted, two-fold; a friendship and a relic.

Isn't it funny, how our paths cross? I read a book once, that encouraged keeping an open mind, to what you want. Synchronisity. Through Giovanni's need for something from you, you gained something you would have only dreamed of having, from him...

This guy's a keeper! Let us know what happens next...

You lucky girl!

Cher.

A great story and a rewarding one from the old crusty guy that really cared about passing something on to someone who would appreciate it.I hope you keep in touch with him ,he sure took a liking to you and I bet you even made his day too! :-)

Nope, Irish, I did not show him the tat.
(Wonder what he'd give me if I did?)
Nah, it's not like that at all.
The other day he said, "Aw, I'm nothin' but a dirty old man."
And I told him if that was the case, I wouldn't even be talking to him.
I did give him a BIG hug. He is quite a character, but he is a real gentleman too. And those are a rare find!
Sorry to keep going on about Giovanni, but he is just so nifty that I can't help it.
I still can't believe that I now have an Atkinson. Anyone have any tips for its care & preservation? And no, Kissy, Justis has a great respect for old things. Which is more than I can say for his Hot Wheels! [Wink]
Love...Jill
