Customer brought in a detached gas tank on a motorcyle. Thought it would be easy to adhere yellow flame (Roland vector art) air brush red tips and outline with black oneshot. Trouble is hard to put vinyl down over a large the concurve
shape. Thought about masking it and painting it but same problem with masking. How does one put down vinyl over a rounded shape. Vinyl crinkles.Any motorcyles or pinheads might give me some pointers. This is one of those jobs where I didnt charge a whole lot. But self learning is worth it.

Thanks

For masking, weeding and spraying it yourself, check with one of your suppliers for Spraylat Signstrip. You brush the liquid on, it dries to form a cuttable, weedable masking. It has been used for decades for decorating sign faces. If you know someone in your area who does backsprayed faces, he likely will have a can on hand and may provide you with the couple of ounces you would need.

There are actually several ways to do this. these are for painting and must be prepped for paint to begin with.

One is to use a fluid mask which is sprayed on, cut with an exacto and then painted.

Another way is to use a Stabillo to draw your flames, then use either blue plastic 1/8" tape fine line, finesse edge or 06343 3M crepe tape to layout your flames, either of the tapes work because the flames will be outlined.

There is a clear vinyl mask out there by Art-tool which is stretchable and made for motorcycle sheet metal. This stuff works well and may be able to be cut on your computers cutter, I dunno, haven't tried it yet.
