We got a new car lately with XM satellite radio. It's $7/mo. and has 150 channels. Good variety of music, news, sports, weather, talk radio and comedy channels. Anybody else have this? You supposedly can go cross country with the same channel. I'll be anxious to use it on our trip to Fred's meet. I wonder if there's a version you can take in your house?

Ahhh the last great free frontier, now on its way to a monthly fee.

First television

Then water

Now radio

Next........................AIR!

We still have regular radio, but this is just an extra. The comedy channel alone is worth it. You've got to pay attention to your driving tough. If somebody hilarious is on, you just have to pull over and get it out of your system.

Bill,

I've had it for about 6 months, and it's addicting. It's worth every penny IMO.

I can't even listen to regular radio anymore. Once you get used to no commercials, you can't go back to the screaming car dealer ads, ****-poor music selection, etc.

You simply can't get bored with the variety you can tune into. If only cable TV was this commercial free, I'd probably watch more of it (ex HBO, etc.).

Listen to it for awhile and you'll see what I mean. It's great to work to.

We've had it for a couple of months now. I'm pretty impressed with reception in rural areas - mostly due to the type of antenna you have. Something weird, though - we've noticed that reception fades near certain banks! (Three of them - different towns)I don't know if it has to do with their security systems, or just a coincidence. ??

Hi Bill.....I saw a commercial where you pop the xm out of your car and put it in a boom box looking unit for the house. Looked pretty cool.

Bill, we have one attached to the shop stereo which also goes into our rock crawler, same unit. Works great.

Had one in my semi...It was nice driving across country without having to keep searching for a good station...plus the signal was great! They have "docking stations" for xm radios. You can be listening to a certain station in your car then when ya get home pull the "head unit" out and take it in the house, plug it in and have the same station continue. I think its well worth the monthly charge not having to wade through all the mind numbing advertisments.

Mine's permanently fixed to the top of the car, but I wouldn't mind having a seperate one for the truck that I can plug in to the shop stereo. I'll have to try and find one.

Bill,

They make kits for cars, home stereos, etc. I use the same head unit in my shop, garage and truck. Each one is basically a docking station with it's own antenna. It's great.

I have one and really enjoy it, I have the boom box hook up for the house and the part that goes in my vehicles.
Any thing you need to buy can be had at Sears or almost any truck stop.

My dad's got one in his semi- he travels from Arkansas to New Mexico and back- usually listening to the same stations the entire trip! his is removable.

I on the other hand, just listen to internet radio all day!
