Ever wonder how many lurkers are on here that don't post, just checking us out. Maybe compitition looking at our post. I some times get an e-mail from old sign people I used to work with, and they mention that they saw a post I did on here. But I've never seen them post. It just seems kind of eerie.

I don't know much about anything other than wood, so I generally read more than I write. Besides I only type about 11 words per minute, so unless I've something important to say .............. Rodger

I know quite a very that read this board for whatever reason they have. Some glean information for work. Some for meet times and locations. Some for personal updates of others. Some are naturally shy. Some are intimindated by it all.
NONE whom would be considered as a "spy"

When I read the term lurkers, I think it means something of ill intent. Many read this board to glean info and feel a part of it without posting. When a group of letterheads sit at a big lunch table together and someone is silent, just listening, are they still participating?

I come to this site often I have learned a lot here and will continue to learn from this site I have asked for help and got it. When I can help I do but there are a lot of people here that have a lot more knowledge about the trade than I do. Also I rank along with Rodger in typing speed. Everyone keep up the good work. On another board I frequent which uses the same format, there is an additional column next to the number of posts that indicates the number of times the topic was viewed. It's amazing...there might be 3 replies on a post and almost a hundred or more times it was viewed.

Murray....... Of course I know 11 words, ya big galute - I just have trouble remembering them. I see you were showing off your "big-bux" carving tools in Mazeppa. Cool. Say hi to Deb. TR

I "lurked" on this board for years (since it's been here). I didn't start posting until I felt that I had something to contribute, but that doesn't mean that I haven't learned more than I ever would have without it. I'd probably be a caterer by now if it wasn't for this community.

I would probably have been a lurker for a while if not for the chat room.
I decided to check out chat the first time I found Lettervile and was immediately greeted by someone who's work I have seen for years, a couple of folks who I had common ground with as a former Massachusetts resident and, of course, fellow sign makers. Been hooked ever since...
I'm sure there are thousands of folks who "lurk" around Letterville on a daily basis and the chat room is a great place to get more involved in Letterville and get to know some really great folks.
my 2 cents... Rapid

Robert, I am actually aware of at least one individual who "lurks" Letterville, but refuses to post or become a resident, even upon invitation...yet will criticize and dog just about everything and everyone here . . . .
yep, THAT is eerie.

Hi. I'm a full-time lurker on this board pretty much since Steve and Barb started it. I've paid my resident dues since that started too. Been painting signs for 30 years with my wife Wendy out of our garage. Been to a dozen Letterheads meets across the US and Canada and made panels in both of the first two swaps (on time).
I'm sure the reason I don't connect with people is because I'm just painfully shy, but please don't categorize me as a "weirdo", or my lurking as "eerie". If you're uncomfortable with others reading your comments, perhaps you should send private emails.
I have jumped in on a few topics. I learn a lot here - some about signmaking, and some things about the do's and don'ts of social interaction via cyberspace.
I also type about 11 words per minute and am not smart enough to navigate the Chat room, so I don't try going there anymore.
Overall, I love this group of people. Some really creative and classy and caring individuals. Keep on keepin' on.

Mark, guess what? You are NOT a lurker.
To me a lurker would be someone who just does'nt have the intestinal fortitude to participate on ANY level. When I came here I wandered around and read stuff, seen it was a good thing and eventually chose to participate. But do'nt just KEEP coming here unidentified and reading stuff AND some try to contact people too.
I liken it to walkin' in a cafe: . . . dont you nod or say hello to people? Don't you go into a cafe to participate in cafe activities?...You make small talk with the waitress . . .someone asks where your from . .. before you kno' it you stop by almost everyday an' your cuttin' up an carryin' on with people and tada!, you made some friends...they kind'a kno' what to expect from you....some of 'em may not like you, but hey, it's a free country . . . Compare this to the person who comes in the cafe sits over in the corner everyday and watches and listens to everyone else, ...never speaks to anyone, won't even make eye contact, not even when spoken to! Then one day all of a sudden they might even jump up and and ask a question or share a comment . . .and retreat again . . . this in an' of itself is fine, yeh some people are shy . . but after a long time of this behavior it's like ___ or get off the pot . . .
So there you have it . . . my definition of a lurker. The only thing worse would be if the guy in the cafe went out every day and talked bad about the customers, the waitress and the food.

Sheila,
You're are a wonderful talker. I don't think you fully understand what its like to be painfully shy.
Posted by Sheila Ferrell (Member # 3741) on :
... bein' real shy is one thing and understandable Mark. But I bet you have at least a few friends that you can relax and communicate with to some degree of enjoyment. Again I say, you are NOT a lurker. You are a resident member who happens to be particularly quiet. It takes all kinds. We need balance among us to make up for for the people who talk TOO much . . .er'...um...like me.
